With 95% of precincts reporting and an over 10,000 vote lead, the race Republican primary race for lieutenant governor was finally called for Leah Cole Allen on Wednesday morning, more than 12 hours after her running mate’s race had been decided.

“I’d like to thank everyone who braved the rain to vote on Tuesday. I am honored and humbled to be the Republican nominee for Lieutenant Governor, and to continue campaigning alongside my running mate, Geoff Diehl,” Allen said in a statement on Wednesday.

According to current tallies, Allen defeated her opponent, former state Rep. Kate Campanale, by about four points, getting over 127,000 votes to Campanale’s about 116,000.

Campanale, in a Wednesday statement alongside her running mate Chris

Doughty, urged supporters to back the party pick but did not name her opponent.

“It was an honor to be on the same ticket with Chris Doughty. From day one, I have shared his positive vision and specific plans for our state. I am also joining with him to call for unity,” she said.

Allen said that the campaign she and Diehl will will run against Attorney General Maura Healey and Salem Mayor Kim Driscoll will highlight the differences being offered to Massachusetts voters.

“Geoff and I are running a campaign focused on freedom, fiscal responsibility, empowering parents and protecting kids,” she said.

“As a mother, a former State Representative, and a Registered Nurse who lost her job due to vaccine mandates, those are all issues that are very important to me personally. I look forward to a campaign that shows the contrasts on these and other issues between me and my opponent.”
