Blacks have many reasons to disavow Democrats

The 15th Amendment, which granted African American men the right to vote, was ratified on Feb. 3, 1870. Fifty years later, on Aug. 18, 1920, the 19th Amendment was enacted, granting African American women and all women the right to vote.

Nowhere in the 15th or 19th Amendments of the United States Constitution does it state that African Americans must exclusively vote for Democrats. Anyone who meets the voting requirements in the U.S. has the right to support whichever political candidate or party they like.

That privilege, however, is all but unavailable to African Americans. Those who are not Democrats frequently face discrimination and ridicule for exercising their freedom to adopt a non-liberal political viewpoint. It comes as no surprise; Democrats have been in the discrimination business for 157 years. Southern Democrat state legislatures passed the notorious Black Codes shortly after the Civil War ended in 1865. Black Codes restricted the rights of African Americans to vote, serve on juries, travel freely, and engage in whatever type of employment they pleased. The Republican-led Reconstruction Act of 1867 mitigated the severity of these codes.

Sadly, once Reconstruction died in 1877, Jim Crow was born, and the Dixiecrat South lived under the separate but equal doctrine up until the Civil Rights Act of 1964, against which Southern Democrat senators staged the longest filibuster in American history. While campaigning in Alabama in 1988, then-Senator Joe Biden bragged of an award he had received from Gov. George Wallace in 1973 and said ‘”we (Delawareans) were on the South’s side in the Civil War.” Dixie Democrat extraordinaire Wallace once remarked, “segregation today, segregation tomorrow, segregation forever.” The Democrats have offered no apologies for their past actions.

After 157 years, things haven’t changed. In 2023, Fox News political analyst Gianno Caldwell was asked to leave a restaurant in North Miami, Florida, because his conservative views “don’t align” with the opinions of the owners.

In one of the freest countries in the world, Democrats believe African Americans have just two acceptable options: killing their unborn children and voting Democrat. African Americans, make up just 13% of the population, but account for 28% of all U.S. abortions. Tony Dungy, a former NFL head coach and current member of NBC’s NFL crew, is both a conservative and pro-life activist. Dungy has been attacked on Twitter for his involvement with March for Life and has been labeled a right-wing extremist for his attendance at the event. He is ridiculed for simply having his own opinion and political preference that isn’t aligned with what Democrats deem acceptable for African Americans.

U.S. Congressman Byron Donalds (R-FL) was mocked on Twitter for his political views in a similar fashion by Congresswoman Cori Bush (D-MO), who tweeted, “@ByronDonalds is not a historic candidate for Speaker. He is a prop. Despite being Black, he supports a policy agenda intent on upholding and perpetuating white supremacy. His name being in the mix is not progress — it’s pathetic.” According

to Bush’s logic, Donalds is merely a prop because he is a Republican; however, the Democrat Minority Leader, Rep. Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY), who is Black, isn’t because he is a Democrat?

The Democratic Party is the progenitor of white supremacy, as evidenced by their abhorrent Jim Crow policies. How can Reps. Bush, Jeffries, or former President Barack Obama justify belonging to a party that was created to keep African Americans enslaved?

African Americans, like all other Americans, should be free to select the political party of their choice without being mocked for their views.
