Did we wake up in midFebruary or mid-May?

This year’s bizarre winter added yet another abnormal chapter on Thursday, as record-high temperature marks were smashed across the region.

Boston hit 62 degrees on Thursday, breaking the previous record-high of 60 degrees for Feb. 16, which had been set in 1882 and tied in 1910.

Providence, R.I., was even warmer, where it reached a whopping 71 degrees — smashing the prior record-high of 60 degrees from back in 1910.

“Providence broke the high temperature for the day by 11 degrees,” the National Weather Service’s Boston office tweeted. “The new record is 71, the old record was 60 set way back in 1910. 11 degrees, WOW!”

“Lunch outdoors?” NWS Boston office tweeted on the mid-February day.

It will be still be rather mild in the 50s on Friday as rain drenches the region. But the spring conditions won’t last long.

Temps will start to fall Friday afternoon as a cold front approaches. The strong cold front will sweep through the area and plunge temps, making it actually feel like mid-February.

“Temperatures will drop into the 20s by Saturday morning,” said Bill Simpson, meteorologist at the National Weather Service’s Boston office.

Wind chills could plummet to the single digits outside of 128, and it could feel like the teens in the Boston-area.

It should be a dry weekend with seasonably cold temps around 40 degrees on Saturday, followed by a more mild day on Sunday near 50 degrees.

Mild weather is expected through Wednesday with chances of showers from late Sunday night through Wednesday.

While it has been unseasonably warm, forecasters are watching for possible wintry weather later in the week.

“… It should be noted that there is the potential for a wintry event sometime in the Wednesday night through Friday morning period,” reads the National Weather Service forecast discussion. “Stay tuned.”
