Briggs nets 25 points, paces Middleboro to victory

Senior Jacob Briggs poured in 25 points, helping to propel Middleboro (16-6) during a convincing 74-30 boys basketball romp of nonleague foe DightonReh­oboth.

Brian Cloonan and Henry Bickford scattered 17 points each, while Jackson Shaw chipped in with seven points and 11 rebounds as Needham bested BC High, 62-43. … Jayden Costa-Haywood (27 points) and Matt Greenspoon (15 points) reached double figures for Stoughton in a 79-53 win over Milton.

Mavrick Bourdeau dropped 28 points, and Aiden MacLeod tacked on 12 points as Shawsheen (128) edged Essex Tech 57-53 in Commonweal­th Athletic

Girls basketball

Brooke Pulpi collected a double-double with 23 points and 10 rebounds, earning MVP honors for Reading (11-9) in a 6122 victory over Beverly in the Goodhue Tournament championsh­ip. … In the consolatio­n game, Faith Newton (20 points) and Caitlin Reilly (19 points) put in tremendous offensive performanc­es for North Reading (15-5) in a 55-37 win over Essex Tech.

Kat Cheesbro knocked down 25 points, while Abby Zuber added 12 points as Dartmouth downed ActonBoxbo­ro 52-45 in a consolatio­n matchup in the Spartan Classic.

Nellie Chan and Mariah Lorenzo recorded 11 points apiece, while Felicia Melendez

finished with nine points as Greater Lowell (17-3) pulled away in the second half for a 52-27 win over Lowell Catholic in the Skaff Tournament.

Cam Collins (23 points) and Kailey Sullivan (17 points) handled the bulk of the scoring for Foxboro (191) in a 61-53 victory over Brookline in the Warrior Classic Championsh­ip. … Sam Ryan tallied 13 points to steer Tewksbury (9-10) to a 35-27 win over Braintree in the consolatio­n game.

Ella Getz registered 10 points, and Annika Martins had seven points as Wayland (16-4) won a nailbiter against Algonquin, 4139, to move on to the Westboro Invitation­al Championsh­ip game.

Girls hockey

Maggie Pierce scored two goals, and Ang Castino earned her 13th shutout in net for St. Mary’s (Lynn) in a 4-0 win over Malden Catholic in the Hingham Showcase.

Center Gianna Bonfilio found the net twice and provided an assist, while left winger Jayda Hayes scored a goal and dished three assists as Reading (12-5-2) blanked Arlington Catholic 5-0 in a nonleague game.

Football

The Eastern Massachuse­tts Interschol­astic Football Officials (EMAIFO) is offering football official training for the 2023 season.
