Foley guides Newburypor­t by Burlington

In the Div. 2 first round, Emma Foley poured in 18 points as seventh-seeded Newburypor­t (18-3) topped Burlington, 56-31, in girls basketball action.

Caitlin Leahy knocked down 20 points (16-21 from the free throw line), while Lillie MacKinnon tacked on 11 points herself as No. 14 Whitman-Hanson (14-7) outlasted No. 19 Leominster, 52-46.

Junior captain Cecilia Kay set the tone offensivel­y with a double-double (26 points, 13 rebounds), while freshman Caitlin Boyle had 13 points and 10 rebounds as third-seeded Bishop Fenwick (14-7) bested No. 30 Quabbin, 50-20, in Div. 3 first round play.

Emily Collins drained 16 points, and Brooke Schrule added 12 points as No. 11 Winchester (15-6) edged No. 22 Methuen 43-42 in a Div. 1 first round thriller.

Boys hockey

Four goals and two assists from Brady Butler paced No. 13 Hopedale-Milford (10-9-2) to a 6-2 win over No. 20 East Longmeadow in Div. 3 first round action. … Jacob McDougall, Colin Underwood, and Tommy Workman scored for No. 12 Dracut/Tyngsboro (16-4-1) in a 3-1 win over No. 21 North Quincy. … Brian DeLisio, Logan Casey, and Brady Leonard found the net for eighth-seeded Essex Tech (18-1-2) in a 3-0 shutout of No. 25 Northbridg­e.

In a Div. 4 round contest, Ryan Benoit scored a goal, and Noel Adams secured the shutout in net for No. 20 Dedham (9-12-0) in a 1-0 upset win over No. 13 Rockland.

Aiden Harrington notched a hat trick, and Liam Bonner lit the lamp twice as No. 2 Duxbury (16-5-2) routed No. 31 Dartmouth 11-0 in a Div. 2 first round game.

Girls hockey

Riley Devlin scored twice as No. 7 Falmouth (15-3-1) ousted No. 26 Medfield

5-0 in a Div. 2 preliminar­y round contest.

Emma MacPherson netted a hat trick, and Katie Barrett scored twice as sixth-seeded Sandwich (14-6-2) cruised to a 6-0 win over No. 27 Leominster in a Div. 2 first round matchup. … Maddie Greenwood and Cammy Holloway got the goals for second-seeded Duxbury (20-12) in a 2-0 victory over No. 31 Matignon.
