Butland rips three homers, Wakefield nips Wilmington

Paige Butland belted three home runs, and Meredith Morris laced a clutch bases-clearing double in the sixth inning as No. 16 Wakefield (12-9) came back and walked it off 12-11 against No. 17 Wilmington in a Div. 2 Round of 32 softball clash.

Delaney Moquin cranked a two-run home run to cap off a balanced offensive performanc­e by eighth-seeded Silver Lake (19-2) in a 15-2 victory over No. 25 Oliver


In the Div. 3 tournament, Emma Keefe connected for a walk-off single, as No. 15 Newburypor­t (13-8) advanced to the Round of 16 with a thrilling 7-6 victory over No. 18 East Bridgewate­r.

Kiley Hogan struck out 11 and gave up just four hits and two walks over seven strong innings, while Izzi Schaffer and Elisabeth Sillipp hit a home run each for fourth-seeded Tyngsboro (16-4) in a 7-0 Div. 4 Round of 16 win over No. 13 Abington.

Soline Fisher pitched seven innings of one-hit ball with 13 strikeouts, and Nora Vartanian (two hits, RBI) and Zoe DiAngelis (solo home run) rose to the occasion offensivel­y as No. 16 Arlington (14-7) silenced No. 17 Reading 5-0 in the Div. 1 Round of 32.


Daniel Sullivan went the distance and helped his own cause with a pair of hits and three RBI as No. 6 Westwood (14-7) shut out No. 27

Minnechaug 4-0 in a Div. 2 opening round tilt.

Boys lacrosse

In the Div. 1 tournament, Jimmy Ayers (hat trick) and Jake Vana (two goals, assist) paced things offensivel­y, as top-seeded St. John’s Prep (18-2) coasted to the Round of 16 with a 14-3 win over No. 32 Barnstable.

Girls lacrosse

Sydney Ecker scored five times as No. 3 Duxbury (165) defeated No. 30 Danvers 16-8 in a Div. 2 first-round contest.

Lexi Politis netted the game-winning goal in the final seconds as No. 8 Mt. Greylock (19-2) nipped No. 9 Cape Cod Academy 17-16 in a Div. 4 second-round contest.

Boys tennis

Connor Liona, Saunak Manna and Will Owen led a clean sweep in singles as No. 9 Westford Academy (10-6) edged No. 8 Needham 3-2 to advance to the Div. 1 quarterfin­als.


In the Div. 2 Round of 16, Son Nguyen had 40 assists, Nathan Tan had a careerhigh 17 kills and Jonathan Narsjo added 12 kills as No. 6 O’Bryant (18-4) swept No. 11 Minnechaug 3-0.

Tyrell Lout registered 52 assists and eight digs, while Ceasar Joseph floored 19 kills and Cody Fitzpatric­k finished with 16 kills and nine digs as second-seeded Lowell (21-1) outlasted No. 18 Lincoln-Sudbury 3-1 in a Div. 1 second round matchup.
