BERTRAM CURRIER, JR., MD, FACS
Dr. Charles Bertram Currier, Jr., MD, FACS “Charlie”, age 87, born in Newton, Massachusetts 10/28/35 died Wellfleet, Massachusetts 7/23/23.
Son of Catharine Blake Currier and Charles Bertram Currier of Boston. Celebration of life will be on September 9th, 2023.
Charlie graduated from Noble and Greenough in Dedham, Massachusetts and went on to Harvard College, graduating in 1958. Charlie then proceeded to Boston University School of Medicine achieving his MD and then accomplishing his Fellowship in the American College of Surgeons (FACS) with further training in Vascular and Transplant Surgery. Charlie was a determined, skilled, optimistic Pioneer. He completed the first kidney transplant in Washington, DC at the Washington Hospital Center in 1974 and then the first kidney pancreas transplant 1993. Over the decades of his work, Charlie nurtured and saved many lives.
Charlie was dedicated to his family. Dedicated son, brother, uncle, friend and father of four and grandfather to 11 brilliant and beautiful grandchildren. Charlie met his beloved Lucille Anstine, MD during residency at the Boston Veterans Administration in the Department of Neurosurgery. They were married for 56 years. He became a Major in the Army Medical Corps where he conducted organ research and transplants. Charlie and Lucy raised the family in Washington, DC and Wellfleet, MA.
Charlie was a Master Poetry Speaker, Master Clock Smith, Avid Sailor, Music aficionado, Dog lover and Active Member of the Methodist Church of Wellfleet.
Service will be 9/9/23 at the Wellfleet Methodist Church 1:30pm with the burial following at Oakdale Cemetery and a Celebration of Life at 4:30 in the Family home: 1015 Chequessett Neck Road, Wellfleet.
