CM’s Pires beats buzzer, rival Xaverian with 3-pointer

Trailing by one point late, Aiden Pires drained the game-winning 3-pointer at the buzzer to lift Catholic Memorial (12-1) to a 4745 Catholic Conference boys basketball win over Xaverian.

Brenden Andrade and Dantae Clarke scored 12 points each, while Preston Joia and Michael Barron had seven points apiece as Mashpee (7-8) beat Hull 50-37 in the South Shore League. … Matt Youngquist exploded for 41 points as Middleboro defeated Randolph 74-53. … Tyler Lennox poured in 15 points, while Jack Balzarini and Joshua Grimes recorded 14 points each as Carver downed Cohasset, 68-43.

Cade Furse erupted for 27 points and Eddie Chareas added a double-double (13 points, 12 rebounds) to fuel Manchester Essex (12-0) over Cape Ann League foe Hamilton-Wenham, 58-37.

Peter Kumar (17 points), Luke Lisciandra (14 points), Thomas Behrman (13 points) and Rowan Tracey (13 points) finished in double figures in scoring for Medfield (10-2) during a 7057 Tri-Valley League victory over Dover-Sherborn.

Robert Fuccillo had the hot hand with 31 points for Minuteman (9-5) in a 74-67 Commonweal­th Athletic Conference win over Nashoba. … Matt Breen knocked down 28 points and grabbed 13 rebounds to steer Shawsheen (8-3) toward a 65-48 win over KIPP.

Finn Bjork (21 points, 21 rebounds) and Brendan McDonald (17 points, five rebounds, five assists) put in outstandin­g offensive performanc­es again, and Dom Taylor made four key threepoint­ers in the fourth quarter to propel Somerset Berkley (10-1) toward a 69-58 nonleague win over Durfee. Girls basketball Devin Crofford scored 18 points, and Marlo Jumper chipped in with 10 points as St. John Paul II (11-3) defeated Wareham 45-33 in a nonleague matchup. … Emma Plante finished with 23 points and seven rebounds, pacing Case (9-5) during a 54-28 victory over Diman. … CC Levrault (13 points, seven rebounds), Addison Taylor (11 points, three assists) and four other players scored for Apponequet in a 50-41 win over Dartmouth. … Maggie O’Connell tallied 13 points, while Julia Hargraves and Maddie Hargraves scored nine points each as Durfee (7-6) defeated Somerset Berkley, 42-31.

Ally Johnson (15 points, four steals), Bridget Devine (11 points, seven blocks) and Kathleen Murphy (10 points, five assists) all turned in clutch performanc­es, as Blue Hills (9-2) coasted to a 4018 victory over Tri-County in the Mayflower Athletic Conference.

Paige Meda (15 points), Raeghan Blake (10 points) and McKinley Wenzel (nine points) set the tone for Bourne (10-0) in a 62-39 South Coast Conference win over Seekonk.

Boys hockey

Upperclass­men led the way for Winchester (8-5), as senior David Strong scored twice, senior Jack Duncan dished a pair of assists and junior Thomas Casey added two more assists in a 5-3 Middlesex League crossover win over Watertown/Wayland.

Tre Nadeau and Jamie Valarelli each scored twice and picked up an assist, pairing with Luke Pellerin’s 21 saves to power Taunton (9-4-1) to a 7-1 win over Everett/Revere in nonleague play.

Boys swimming

Nate Gabriel won the 100 freestyle (53.76) and was one of the winners of the 200 freestyle relay (1:42.39) as Chelmsford (9-2) defeated Andover 9684 to clinch a share of the Merrimack Valley Conference title.
