Scituate holds off Chicopee Comprehens­ive in hard-fought battle

Brian Good (18 points, seven rebounds) and Michael Porter (17 points, five rebounds) shouldered things offensivel­y, as No. 15 Scituate (19-4) held on for a wild 63-60 boys basketball victory over No. 18 Chicopee Comprehens­ive in the Div. 2 Round of 32.

In the Div. 3 tournament, Luke Lisciandra erupted for 28 points, while Pete Kumar added 17 points to propel sixth-ranked Medield (17-4) in a 73-51 romp of No. 38 Worcester Tech.

In the Div. 5 first round, Ronniel Luna tallied 13 points for No. 13 Boston English (7-14) in a 67-63 victory over No. 20 Edward M. Kennedy.

Mason Medeiros (19 points, eight rebounds), Finn Bjork (10 points, 14 rebounds) and Brendan McDonald (11 points) reached double digits in scoring while Dom Taylor (nine points) and Max Finlaw (eight fourth quarter points, two threes) contribute­d also as fourthseed­ed Somerset Berkley (19-2) topped No. 29 Burncoat 62-53 in a Div. 2 first round matchup.

Girls basketball

Alyssa Hopps continued her great season with a 22-point performanc­e, as ninth-seeded Quincy (18-3) coasted to a 55-36 victory over No. 24 Hopkinton in the Div. 1 tournament.

Tess Baacke scored 19 points, while Annie Stanton and Naya Annigeri netted 15 points each as No. 1 Medfield (19-2) defeated No. 32 Westboroug­h 68-50 in Div. 2 first round action.

Sarah Chenette notched a double-double with 24 points, 13 rebounds and five steals, while Addy Andrews finished with 13 points and Catherine Toomey grabbed 11 rebounds as No. 6 Cohasset (15-7) bested No. 27 Ayer Shirley 50-24 in a Div. 4 first round game. … KayLijah Oehschlage­l recorded 10 points to lead a balanced scoring performanc­e by No. 17 Rockland (9-14) in a 51-45 win over No. 16 Case.
