Beloved Husband, Father, Grandfather
Of Westwood, and Mashpee, formerly of Jamaica Plain, passed away peacefully on August 17th, 2023, surrounded by his adoring family. Devoted husband of Dorothy (Silva) Grady with whom he shared 60 years of marriage. Loving father of Donna Grady of Cambridge, Deborah Allaire (JJ) of Newton, and Daniel Grady (Anne) of Needham. Beloved grandfather of Kevin and Kathleen Grady, Andre Vlahakis, and Chris and Matthew Allaire. Brother of the late Dorothy Mallett (Lester), John Grady (Marjorie), and James Grady and his surviving wife Marianne. Brotherin-law of the late Richard Silva and his surviving wife Helen, Walter Silva and his late wife Betty, and the late Ruth Pellegrini. Also survived by many nieces and nephews who loved spending time with their Uncle Danny.
Born in Boston to John and Eleanor (McGlinchy) Grady and grew up in Jamaica Plain, graduating from Jamaica Plain High School in 1954. After graduation, Dan joined the
Army and was stationed in Germany during the mid-1950’s where he made many good friends that he kept in touch with throughout his life. After the Army, Dan enrolled at Northeastern University. Upon graduation on a Friday, Dan joined the William Underwood Company the following Monday in their Finance and Accounting department, and worked his way up to Chief Financial Officer by the time they were acquired in 1982. Dan made many great friends at Underwood, some of whom he stayed in touch with until his last days. While working, Dan achieved his Masters in Finance from Northeastern University where he continued teaching masters classes in accounting for many years.
After Underwood, Dan joined the Bose Corporation as their CFO where he worked for over twenty years and helped oversee their rapid global growth. He cherished his time at Bose and formed a special relationship with Dr. Amar Bose and many others from the Bose team.
Dan also served on the boards of Welch’s, the Dedham Savings Bank, and was very involved in the Financial Executives Institute and the Rogerson House.
Dan loved his family and friends and was the consummate extrovert. He looked forward to his morning golf rounds at Brae Burn, New Seabury, and the Loxahatchee Club, and even more so loved the post round lunches with his golf buddies. He also enjoyed boating on the Irish Mist off of Mashpee and his Cape Cod sunsets with Dottie, always with some Irish music playing in the background through his Bose speakers.
His many years of loyalty as a Boston sports fan and Celtics and Patriots season ticket holder were rewarded with 30 championships during his lifetime, many of which he witnessed live.
He had a great sense of humor and had a kind word to say to everyone. He never forgot his blue-collar upbringing, was thankful for the success that came his way, and always did his best to help others.
He will be missed by all, but especially by his grandchildren who will miss spending time on the golf course, boat, watching the Pats, or just hanging out with their “Papa”.
Visiting Hours: Family and friends are invited to attend Visiting Hours at the Holden, Dunn and Lawler Funeral Home, 55 High Rock St., WESTWOOD, on Tuesday, August 22nd, from 4 – 7 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday morning, August 23rd, at 11 a.m. in St. Margaret Mary Church, 845 High Street. Westwood. Internment at New Westwood Cemetery. Following the services, there will be a reception for family and friends at 1:00 p.m. at the Brae Burn Country Club, located at
