Cowboys hang on for triumph

Lions penalized on 2-point try

-

Dak Prescott threw for 345 yards and two touchdowns, and the Cowboys stopped the Lions on the third try of a 2-point conversion with 23 seconds remaining, preserving a 20-19 victory to extend their home winning streak to 16 games Saturday night.

On the first conversion try after Jared Goff’s 11-yard touchdown pass to Amon-Ra St. Brown, Goff completed a pass to lineman Taylor Decker, but the Lions were called for illegal touching.

The Lions went for 2 again from the 7-yard line and were stopped on an interception that didn’t even reach the end zone, but the Cowboys were called for offside.

On the final attempt, Goff ’s pass to Josh Reynolds was incomplete, finishing off the Dallas celebration of two-time Super Bowl-winning coach Jimmy Johnson’s induction into the team’s ring of honor at halftime.

CeeDee Lamb caught a 92yard touchdown that was the second-longest pass in club history — behind the 95-yard connection in 1966 between two ring of honor members in Don Meredith and Pro Football Hall of Fame receiver Bob Hayes.

Dallas went ahead 17-13 on

Brandin Cooks’ scoring catch from Prescott, and the Cowboys extended the lead to seven on

Brandon Aubrey’s record 35th field goal without a miss to start a career.

Goff ’s second interception set up Aubrey’s kick, but he led the Lions 75 yards in nine plays to St. Brown’s TD catch. Goff finished 19 for 34 for 271 yards with a TD and two interceptions.

Prescott finished 26 for 38 with an interception.

As for Johnson, he joined

Tom Landry as the only coaches alongside the 19 players and two executives in the exclusive group of one of the NFL’s storied franchises. The induction came nearly 30 years after his acrimonious split with owner Jerry Jones.

Colts TE arrested

Colts tight end Drew Ogletree was arrested Friday on domestic violence charges, according to court records.

The 25-year-old was charged with domestic battery committed in the physical presence of a child less than 16 years old and domestic battery resulting in moderate bodily injury, Indiana court records show. Both are felonies.

Ogletree is accused in a probable cause affidavit of body slamming a woman Tuesday after she looked at his phone and discovered that he was cheating on her, the Indianapolis Star reported.

Accounts provided by both the woman and Ogletree indicated she attempted to “smack” him, but did not. She told police Ogletree “body slammed” her to the ground; Ogletree told officers he pushed her to the ground, per the affidavit.

Ogletree remained held without bond Saturday at the Hendricks County Jail pending a Tuesday court hearing, a deputy said. The court also issued a nocontact order.

The Colts issued a statement attributed to an NFL spokesperson that said the league placed Ogletree on the commissioner exempt list. “Ogletree may not practice or attend games while on the list,” according to the statement.

Ogletree was the Colts’ sixthround pick out of Youngstown State in the 2022 draft. He has nine catches for 147 yards and two touchdowns this season for the 8-7 Colts, who are chasing a playoff spot.

The team plays at home against the Raiders on Sunday.

Packers lose Stokes

Packers cornerback Eric Stokes has gone back on injured reserve as he continues to deal with a hamstring issue, causing one more obstacle for a secondary that’s already missing suspended corner Jaire Alexander.

The Packers (7-8) had announced that Alexander would be serving a one-game suspension because of conduct detrimental to the team. That means Alexander and Stokes will be sidelined when the Packers face All-Pro receiver Justin Jefferson and the Vikings (7-8) in a game with huge playoff implications for both teams.

Adams goes to IR

The Seahawks placed safety

Jamal Adams on injured reserve, ending his regular season after he missed the previous two games because of lingering issues with his knee.

Adams had returned to practice in a limited fashion for two days this week.

Each of his four seasons with the Seahawks have been defined by injuries that have cost him significant time.

Seattle also cut veteran defensive end Frank Clark. Coach

Pete Carroll had been oddly evasive when answering questions about Clark’s status following practice Friday. Clark was expected to be inactive against the Steelers for the fourth time in six games despite not being listed as having any sort of injury.

The team also downgraded linebacker Jordyn Brooks (ankle) to being out for Sunday. Without Brooks, former Pittsburgh first-round pick Devin Bush is expected to get the start against his former team.
