DENMARK, George D.

-

Age 89, of North Falmouth, passed away surrounded by family on Wednesday, December 20, 2023. Born in Quincy, MA on May 13, 1934, George was the eldest son of the late John

F. and Genevieve (Ryan) Denmark. He was the devoted husband of Ann (Gooding) Denmark, who predeceased him in October of this year, just 71 days before him. They were married for 66 years. He was also preceded in death by his son, Christopher Denmark; his sister, Rosemary Murphy; and his sonsin-laws, John Bryant and David Souza.

While growing up in Randolph and then Hingham, MA, George honed his entrepreneurial skills, raising chickens, selling eggs, mowing laws and caddying for golfers. There was no idle time. He graduated from Hingham High School in 1952 and then from Massachusetts College of Pharmacy in 1957. In

1960, he launched his own business, Denmark’s Pharmacy in Pocasset, and expanded it over the years to include home medical equipment and surgical supplies, servicing all of Southeastern Massachusetts.

Despite the demands of his own business, George remained actively involved with Massachusetts College of Pharmacy, serving as a trustee and leader of numerous committees and campaigns. In 1974, he received the Outstanding Alumni Award and was bestowed an Honorary Doctorate. He also was heavily involved with the American Pharmaceutical Association and served as its president from 1973-1974. He was a hardworking and dedicated professional who was honored to represent his fellow pharmacists.

A deeply religious man, attending daily Mass, George served as a lecturer and eucharistic minister in both of his parishes, St. Johns the Evangelist in Pocasset and St. Luke’s of Boynton Beach, FL. At LaSalette Shrine in Attleboro, MA, he was a board member and chairman of the Advisory board. For many years, George was a rector for the Fall River Cursillo movement.

George deeply loved his Cape Cod community. He served on the Bourne Board of Health (1963-1973), the Board of Directors at Cape Cod Bank and

Trust and was a Trustee of Falmouth Hospital (1983-1993).

George was an avid and accomplished golfer who started playing golf very early in his life and played it well into his 80s. Working as a caddy in his youth only served to deepen his bond to the game and he would go on to be a member and president at both Pocasset Golf Club and Atlantis Golf Club (Atlantis, FL). If George wasn’t on the golf course, you could find him working outside in his gardens. George and Ann wintered in Florida for more than 30 years and developed many lasting friendships. He will be dearly missed by all who loved him.

Above all else, George loved his family. He is survived by six children, Priscilla Bryant of Pocasset, Marie Iarocci-Souza of Providence, RI, Elizabeth Taylor and husband, Michael of Chesapeake, VA, David Denmark and wife, Lisa of Yarmouthport, Timothy Denmark and wife, Erin of North Falmouth and Ann Marie Myers of Chespeake, VA. He is survived by fifteen grandchildren and five greatgrandchildren. He is also survived by his brother, Jay (Cheryl) Denmark; his sister, Jane Maher; and many nieces and nephews. George instilled a strong work ethic and robust sense of celebration in his family. He encouraged large gatherings at the family home in Cataumet, especially around the holidays. Rest in peace,

Dad. You are home with Mom, we love you!
