SANDLER, Priscilla Louise (Newall)

-

Passed away on December 9, 2023. Priscilla, with her husband, Joel Sandler, who predeceased her by several years, made her home in

Naples, Florida for the last thirty years of her life. She originally came from Massachusetts. She graduated from Newton High School and from Boston University.

A dedicated teacher, she spent 25 years teaching in elementary grades at the Horace Mann School in Newton. Creative and skilled in the profession she loved, Priscilla was respected by her colleagues and by the children in her classes. In the 1960s, she won a Fulbright Award that took her to Nottingham, England for a year to teach and learn in an elementary school there. In the years after she moved to Florida, she continued in education by assisting in the development of curricula and tutored many young learners.

Priscilla was a chorister who found great pleasure in singing in church choirs, particularly at Grace Episcopal Church, Newton, MA and St. Monica’s Episcopal Church, Naples, FL.

Priscilla was the third child of John D. Newall and Constance Putnam Newall Englund. She had two brothers, John P. Newall (deceased) and Roger Newall of Albuquerque, New Mexico; a sister, Constance Conn of Newton, MA; a stepsister, Karla Thompson (deceased). Her daughter, Kyrstan Stowell of Rindge, NH, survives her as do several nieces and nephews. Especially important and helpful to her in her last few years of life were her Putnam cousins and close friends from her parish, St. Monica’s of Naples and friend, Linda Wagner.

A Memorial Service for Priscilla will be scheduled at a later date.
