RODRIGUES, Dr. Dulcinea Mericia de Correa (Joy)

Age 101 years, September 2,1922 January 10, 2024.

Beloved wife of the late Swithen Rodrigues (Chief engineer, Indian Railways); daughter of Charles and Florinda Correa; and sister of Carmelita Nazareth (Charles), Dr. William Correa (Olga) and Dr. hc. Charles Correa (Monika). Dulcinea was a PhD historian and writer, who devoted her life to raising the status of women and girls through programs of self help.

A visionary and inspiratio­nal leader, she was appointed to the first Consilium de Laicis establishe­d by Pope Paul VI to implement the reforms of the Second Vatican Council and the Pontifical Commission for the Study of Women in Church and Society. She was also the Internatio­nal Vice President of the World Union of Catholic Women’s Organizati­ons, longtime National President of the Council of Catholic Women of India, and President of the YWCA of Bombay. In these roles, she interacted with St. Pope Paul VI, St. John Paul II, St. Mother Teresa, Queen Fabiola of Belgium, and First Lady Rosalyn Carter.

She is survived by her children, Dr. Maya Fleur Roeth-Kamat (AOR Dr. Ernst-Peter Roeth), Dr. Janine Saldanha (Dr.Victor Saldanha), late Jolyon Kamath (Ana Maria), Dr. Brinda Kamat, and Dr. Miguel Rodrigues; grandchild­ren, Monisha (Deba), Dr. Alok (Dr.Carole) and Reba Saldanha (Kevin); PD Dr.med. Dipl. Phys. Anjali Roeth; Nicola (Anand), Kristen (Brad), Carrie (Dr.Joe), and Andrew Kamath; and 14 great-grandchild­ren.

Her charismati­c personalit­y, generous heart and brilliant mind touched all our lives, and a light has left our world.

Family and friends will honor and remember Dulcinea’a life by gathering for a Visiting Hour in St. Joseph Church, 68 William Cardinal O’Connell Way, Boston, on Wednesday morning, January 17, 2024 at 10:00 A.M., followed by a Funeral Mass at 11:00 A.M. Entombment will follow in Holy Cross Cemetery, Malden.
