-

Age 81, of Bedford, Massachusetts, died unexpectedly on March 26, 2024. He was born in Jamestown, New York in 1943, to Clayton and Louise Johnson Ahlgren. Gary was valedictorian at Jamestown High School, 1961, went on to study Electrical Engineering at the University of Cincinnati, B.S. 1966 and earned a PhD in Physics from Purdue University, 1972, where he met his wife of 55 years, Karin. Gary worked for MIT Lincoln Laboratory for over forty years, which included acting as a respected group leader and two tours, ten years total, at the Reagan Test Site on Kwajalein Atoll in the Marshall Islands.

Gary was a loving husband and father and he is remembered for his kindness and selflessness. He was a dedicated member of his church community, Trinity Covenant Church of Lexington, tirelessly putting in many hours to the upkeep of the building and the audio-visual team. At home and work, Gary displayed creative ingenuity in fixing things with whatever resources were around. He passed down those skills to his three children, as well as his love of baking; his overstuffed apple pies and rhubarb crisp with whipped cream were a staple at church potlucks and every family holiday.

Gary is survived by his wife, Karin Blomberg; and their children, Stefan, Nathan and Ingrid and their four grandchildren; his two sisters, Jane and Martha and their families; two brothers-in-law, Goran and Peter, their families and many dear cousins.

A Memorial Service will be held on April 27, 2:30 pm, at the former Trinity Covenant Church, 7 Clematis Road, Lexington, MA. Donations in honor of Gary may be made to Pilgrim Pines, www.pilgrimpines.org Kisoboka Uganda, https://www.kisoboka.org/ or the Salvation Army,
