CURRAN, Rita L. (Skamarakas)

The world became brighter on Sept. 19, 1947, the day that Rita L. (Skamarakas) Curran was born. Rita sadly passed on March 17, 2024, after a long and happy life. Rita was the beloved wife of the late Francis K. Curran; and was the daughter of the late Anthony E. And Rita (Murphy) Skamarakas. She will be sorely missed.

Rita was born & raised in Dorchester; she was educated in

Boston Public Schools. Rita worked various jobs throughout her young life. She worked at Harley Hospital in Dorchester. She also worked as a secretary for Teradyne Corporatio­n in Boston. She also had a flair for cooking and baking, and was known for her famous calzones. Rita enjoyed flowers, dancing, and traveling.

Rita’s love for people made her very special. Her joy and happiness lit up the room. Her laughter was contagious. She had a vivacious personalit­y and always made people around her laugh. She made friends everywhere she went.

She is survived by two brothers,

John Skamarakas and his wife Susann of Everett and Edward Skamarakas and his wife Leone; an aunt, Betty Ingram; many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.

Rita was the sister of the late Irene DeVivo.

Everyone thinks that his or her doctor is the best, but Rita’s oncologist, Dr. Nancy Kaddis, is a credit to her profession, and a source of strength to her patients. Her staff of nurses were so supportive in this difficult journey.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend her Funeral Service Friday, April 19th, at St. Augustine Cemetery Chapel, 181 Dorchester St., South Boston, at 11AM.
