PRINTING PROFITS

Turning Decals into Dollars

- Words by Chris Hamilton Photos by Reynier D

YOU WANT HOW MUCH TO PAINT IT? How many times have you said that! Or how many perfect trucks have you found on the marketplace, only to realize the paint is faded and the cost to repaint would remove any profit when you go to sell it?

We’ve always known the option to wrap your truck was available and affordable, but what about restyling your truck with some classic graphic design without breaking the bank or taking it off the road for a month or so? The boys at Low Sierra Company sat around and analyzed that problem before coming up with this solution: Design a new, modern stripe package with older influences and colors. It was a great idea, and now they are in the decal business—and business is good!

Based out of Miami, Low Sierra Company was founded by two gearhead friends Trent Scotti and JR Rivas. Their original goal was to bring back the eccentric styles of the

’70s and ’80 s, only with an added modern twist of their own. They quickly gained

recognition by creating new ideas and kits to set anyone’s truck apart from the rest. They print on only the best quality material money can buy, 3M Uv-protected film, and they recently partnered with The Sign Savers. Teaming up with the best sign shop in South Florida gives you the option for professional installation if you’re so inclined.

“We just want to give a quality product to the everyday dude who’s looking to build his childhood dream truck and make a statement while staying classy and fresh,” Trent says.

So, the plan for this project was to add some style and value to a

’80 Chevy Blazer without taking the whole truck apart for a repaint. These graphics can be designed, printed and installed in a single day, and if you’re out of town they are happy to print and package these for your own install at home. It’s a tough job to lay these graphics down without getting any wrinkles or stretch marks, so talk to your local wrap company to get some installonly quotes. Let’s watch the guys at The Sign Savers make it look easy.

Getting the colors perfect is an important part of the process. The last thing you want is to print everything just to find out that the truck owner hates the color.

?? ?? 07With the passenger side applied, the door seams are trimmed and cleaned up. You can even bring the graphics into the door jambs if you’re willing to pay for it. The original emblems can be cleaned or replaced and stuck directly to the wrap material. And you can go right over those dents and scratches!

side panels are in place and the rear tailgate is wrapped up (no pun intended), the hood stripes are taped up to confirm placement on the hood. It’s now or never to find the flaws, so take your time. Once they are happy with the location, the backing is removed and the graphics are bonded.
