Please support this worthy cause to help our local high school students who have lost loved ones to suicide. Tickets are available at the Harris Arts Center. The tickets are $10 for adults and $7 for students.

Country Music Show to benefit St. Jude’s Children Hospital will be on Saturday, September 22 from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. The event will be held at Pleasant Valley Flea Market Hwy 411 N., Eton. The music will be by the Country T Band, and there will be an open microphone for anyone wishing to perform. Donations are for St. Judes only, and admission is free.

Tuesday, Sept. 25

The 2013 United Way Campaign for the 19th year is the Unity Run set for Tuesday, September 25. The 1-K Kid’s Run begins at 5 p.m. and the 5-K Run/Walk is set to start at 6:30 p.m. Both runs start at Gordon Central High. The 1-K Kid’s Run finishes on the track at Ratner Stadium on the Gordon Central Campus. The Piedmont Regional Office Georgia Legal Services Pro Bono Project will sponsor a Free Legal Clinic entitled Ask a Lawyer Day for Gordon and surroundin­g county communitie­s on Friday, September 28. it will be held at the Farm Bureau, located at 487 West Belmont Drive, Calhoun. The event is from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Attorneys will be available to provide brief legal advice on a variety of subjects including: Family, Consumer, Bankruptcy, Probate, Landlord Tenant Law and more. Seritt/Serritt Family Reunion SundaySept­ember 9th at the Old Sugar Valley School (now has air condition) Lunch served at 1:00pm. Meat, drinks, plates, etc will be provided. We are asking that you bring a vegetable dish, desert, bread, or drinks. Come meet your extended family. Every family recognized. We will honor the oldest and youngest family member. Bring any old photos that you would like to share. If you have any hobbies - Painting, Pottery, Wood working, Canning, Sewing ... bring something you don’t mind being given away for our door prize drawings. Several events planned to make it a fun family day. Help spread the word to other relatives.

Gordon Central class of ’92 will be hosting its 20year reunion. Well twenty years have passed since we all graduated, so do you still look the same? The celebratio­ns will commence on Friday, October 5 at the Gordon Central Homecoming game which starts at 7:30 p.m. You may bring your children to the event if you would like. Saturday, October 6 we will meet at Mellow Mushroom on Broad Street in Rome. The starting time will be 7pm. If you would like to come early and help decorate please let me know. Cost is $15 per person and must be prepaid. Deadline is August 15. Mellow Mushroom closes at 2 a.m. and last call on drinks will be at 1 a.m. The first and most important thing is we need at least 100 people total to prepay their $15 each or $30 a couple by August 15th. If you would like to add an extra $5 to your check to help with supplies, decoration­s, awards, centerpiec­es and a tip for our great Wes Ruff; that would be great. If not I do understand. The Calhoun High School Class of 1982 is holding their 30-year class reunion. The reunion will be held October 12 and 13. The class will host a tailgate party at the Phil Reeve Stadium preceding the Peperell home game October 12 at 6 p.m. Bring your favorite tailgate food and your family. The reunion party will be at the Calhoun Convention Center on October 13. Join the class for food, drink, music and fellowship from 7:30 p.m. until 11:30 p.m. Go to the class website to register for the event at 1982chs.myevent.com. Low Cost Spay/Neuter Program Sponsored by Echota Pet Advocacy and Rescue Group, Inc. will be on the second and fourth Wednesday of the Month. We are offering low cost spay/neuter procedures for cats $15 or dogs $20. Owners must show proof of true financial need (e.g. gross income less than $22,000 annually, any proof of government assistance) or provide a certificat­e issued by the Gordon County Animal Shelter. All animals must have current proof of Rabies vaccinatio­n or one will be administer­ed at an additional fee of $5. Please note starting September 1 every animal will be given a 24 hour flea treatment before entering the mobile unit at a fee of $5. Animals must be good tempered, in apparently good health, less than five years old and less than 50 pounds. Surgeries are scheduled on a first come first serve basis. The Calhoun Tea Party will be meeting the second and fourth Thursday of each month at Shoney’s Restaurant on Red Bud Road in Calhoun. The meeting will start promptly at 12 p.m. and ends at 1 p.m. If you would like to buy your lunch there and eat with us, Shoney’s has opened their side room at 11:30 a.m. for those of us who choose to do that. August meetings will be Thursday, August 9 and Thursday, August 23. Come join us and let your voice be heard.
