South Calhoun Baptist Church will hold revival August 26 - 29 with Bro. Danny Watters bringing the message. The SCBC Choir will provide singing. Service begins at 6 p.m. on Sunday and 7 p.m. Monday through Wednesday. The church is located at the corner of Pine and River streets. Pastor Gary Bowman invites everyone to attend.

There will be a homecoming at Plainville Independen­t Methodist Church on Sunday August 12. You are invite to come and share homecoming time with us. We are honoring the memory of Mollie Floyd’s birthday August 15. The visiting speaker is Hoyt Coker. There will be a special singing, and lunch after church (bring your favorite dish). There will be a revival at Calvary Baptist Church in Sugar Valley on Bayview drive. The revival will begin with homecoming on August 19. The singing starts 10 a.m., and the preaching follows at 11 a.m. Marvin Carr will preach on homecoming. The revival will be on August 20 through the 24 starting at 7:30 p.m. Rev Matthew Harris will preach the revival. We will have special singing each night, and our pastor M.L. Thomas said everyone is welcome.

The Barrett Road Church will host a revival with Bishop Michael Baker Administra­tive Bishop of North Georgia Sunday, August 12 through Wednesday August 15. Plainview Baptist Church is having a revival August 12 – 17, with two services held everyday. The first one will start at 10:30 a.m. and the evening service will start at 7:30 p.m. every night.

Cedar Creek Baptist Church will be having Revival August 6 - 10 at 7p.m. Rev. Brent Thompson will bring the message. Brent Thompson is a native of Heflin, Alabama and has been in the Gospel ministry for over 26 years. During those years he has served as a Student Pastor, Minister of Education and a Senior Pastor. He has pastored three churches in Alabama and Georgia. He has been the Pastor of Spring Creek Baptist Church in Rome since 2006. He is also a graduate of Tennessee Temple University in Chattanoog­a, Tennessee. Brent and his wife Angie have been married for 22 years and they make their home in Taylorsvil­le with their two daughters, Kaitlyn age 19 and Brooklyn age 12.

Calvary Christians Fellowship of Calhoun will be having a building fund benefit at the Old Oostanaula School on August 18 starting at 5 p.m. till 10 p.m. We will be selling $1 tickets on an Epiphone guitar. Adventists Host “Better Health Initiative” The Health Ministries Committee of the Dalton Seventh-day Adventist Church is spearheadi­ng a “Better Health Initiative,” September 6 – 21, emphasizin­g good nutrition and exercise. On Thursday, September 6, the highlyaccl­aimed 90- minute movie, “Forks Over Knives” will be shown at the Northwest Georgia Trade & Convention Center, at 2 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. There is no charge for the movie. There will be Spanish subtitles. Four nutrition/cooking classes will be conducted as well. Dates: Mondays and Thursdays, September 10, 13, 17, and 20, from 6:30 – 8:30, at the Learning Tree School, 300 S. Tibbs Rd., in Dalton. “The Engine 2 Diet” movie, a practical sequel to “Forks Over Knives,” will be included in the cooking classes. New Special Needs ministry. Trinity Baptist Church wants to minister to individual­s with special needs and their caretakers., offering a new Bible Class specifical­ly geared toward anyone with special needs. The class will begin at 9:45 a.m. on Sunday mornings. In this class, we intend to reveal the love of Jesus Christ, have fun and meet new friends. Monthly events will be scheduled for the sheer fun of celebratin­g life with the new friends we have made and to provide caretakers with a little time to themselves. Some examples of scheduled events are concerts, picnics and popcorn and a movie. As we get to know one another better, we will establish events geared toward what our group wishes to do. Cup of Life Ministry is a local communityf­unded outreach that is called to minister to the people of Gordon County in need of food, clothing, toys, and most of all Jesus Christ. “Our mission is to love and guide people who are looking for answers in times of hardship,” a spokesman said. One important part of Cup of Life Ministry is the Bike Repair Shoppe. Volunteers repair kids’ broken-down bikes and provide new and used bikes to children who do not own one. The group is in need of new and used bicycles and parts to replenish the bikes already given away or repaired. If you have the ability to give any bikes to this ministry, the group will come to your home and pick up the bikes or parts. The youth group at First Presbyteri­an Church, Red Bud Road, wants to make a difference in the lives of at-risk children in the area. They are leading the community in PROD (Prevention and Relief of Domestic Violence) and will be collecting the listed items for victims of domestic violence. If you would like to donate, place any of the following items in the box in the Gathering Room of the church: cleaners, trash bags, trash cans, dish towels, toilet paper, paper towels, shampoo, soap, deodorant, hair spray, razors, feminine care items, lotion, diapers, baby wipes, laundry detergent, aspirin, BandAids, children’s cold medication, Wal-Mart gas cards, McDonald’s gift certificat­es, etc., and canned items (such as soup, ravioli, etc.). “Thank you for your help,” a spokesman said.
