Oakman Baptist Church and Pastor Jason Pace invite everyone to attend their weekly services. Sunday School is at 10 a.m. and morning worship is at 11. Sunday evening activities, which include worship and children and youth programs, begin at 6 p.m. Wednesday services begin at 7 p.m., which include Bible study and programs for youth and children.

The youth group at First Presbyterian Church, Red Bud Road, wants to make a difference in the lives of at-risk children in the area. They are leading the community in PROD (Prevention and Relief of Domestic Violence) and will be collecting the listed items for victims of domestic violence. If you would like to donate, place any of the following items in the box in the Gathering Room of the church: cleaners, trash bags, trash cans, dish towels, toilet paper, paper towels, shampoo, soap, deodorant, hair spray, razors, feminine care items, lotion, diapers, baby wipes, laundry detergent, aspirin, Band-Aids, children’s cold medication, Wal-Mart gas cards, McDonald’s gift certificates, etc., and canned items (such as soup, ravioli, etc.). “Thank you for your help,” a spokesman said.
Nellie Peters United Methodist Church, 1122 S. Wall St. (across from Advance Auto Parts), would like to invite everyone to all of its services. The church has Bible study on the second and fourth Wednesday of each month and also hosts fellowship suppers on the third Wednesday of each month. Sunday School starts at 10 a.m., with worship at 11 a.m. with singing and a wonderful spiritual message. Tapes are available of every worship ser- vice. The church also has a nursery that you can carry your small children into and still be able to see and hear what is going on. Pastor Dr. Dennis Jarvis said everyone is welcome.

The National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) will offer FamilyTo-Family, a FREE, 12week course, that teaches biological nature of mental illness, treatment, and most importantly ways to support their loved one. Additional funding has been allocated for the LIHEAP program that assists low-income residents with their heating bill, only those who have not received assistance with their heating bill. MOMS Club of Calhoun is a new local chapter of an international nonprofit group. MOMS Club is a support group designed for the at-home mother of today. Membership is open to all moms who live in Gordon County. Events are scheduled weekdays during the day and children are welcome at all events. Mothers of any age children are welcome. The goals of the group are to provide a support group for mothers who choose to stay at home to raise their children, provide a forum for topics of interest to all mothers, to help children in the community and perform at least one service project yearly helping needy children. YOGA classes at the Harris Arts Center are held every Wednesday evening in the upstairs Community Room. No need to register; classes are ongoing. All level yoga is from 6 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Wednesday for those with some degree of flexibility. There is a beginner yoga class from 7:30 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. on Wednesdays for everyone.
