Albert Head

Albert Winfred Head, of Covington, passed away on Oct. 5, 2015. Albert enjoyed life to the fullest and was blessed with a loving wife, Joan, for 65 years. He dedicated his life to his God, his family, and his fellow man all the days of his life, leading others as a mentor in multiple fraternal organizati­ons. He was a member of Golden Fleece Masonic Lodge #6 in Covington, Georgia, the Royal Arch Masonic Chapter #71, the Grand Council of Georgia #41, Knights Templar Commandery #25, Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite as a 33° Valley of Atlanta, Grand Council of High Priests of Georgia, Georgia Council (Order of the Silver Trowel), Carl F. Lester Jr. Knight Masons Council #65, Red Cross of Constantin­e- Saint Ambrose Conclave (Atlanta, GA)-Puissant Sovereign 1996, Past Potentate of Yaarab Temple and Cabiri Life Member (Potentate 1978), Allied Masonic Degrees (Zarthan Council #329 AMD), Eastside Scottish Rite Associatio­n- Past and First President, Luther g. Palmer York Rite College #123, Yaarab Temple Patrol Unit, Order of the Purple Cross-York Rite Sovereign College, Past Grand Chaplain of Royal Arch Masons (2008-2009 & 2103-2014), and the Sons of Confederat­e Veterans.

During the Korean War he was proud to serve our nation as a member of the United States Naval Reserve. He started his working career in accounting with Chevrolet and retired from the Joe N. Guy Constructi­on Company. While living in Calhoun, he became active in politics and was elected as a City Councilman and was President of the Chamber of Commerce for Gordon County.

He is survived by his wife, Joan; daughter, Connie Head, of Knoxville, Tenn.; son and daughter- in- law, Doug and Emily Head, of Tifton; and grandchild­ren, Caitlin McCall, Ceilia McCall, and Anna Head. He will always be remembered as a loving and dedicated husband, fantastic and involved father, and playful and protective grandfathe­r. While his spirit has gone on to be with the Lord, his legacy remains and grows even greater still.

There was a viewing at A.S. Turner and Sons in Decatur on Wednesday, Oct. 7 from 6:30 until 8:30 p.m.; Chapel service at Turner on Thursday, Oct. 8 at noon; and a Masonic Graveside service immediatel­y followed the Chapel service at Westview in Atlanta. Flowers will be accepted, as will donations in his honor to the Shriners Hospitals for Burned and Crippled Children and the Masonic Children’s Home. A. S. Turner and Sons Funeral Home and Crematory.

Pamela Zeigler

Mrs. Pamela Kay Zeigler, age 66, of Ranger, departed this life Tuesday morning, Oct. 6, 2015, at her residence surrounded by her family.

Pamela was born Jan. 16, 1949 in Danville, Ill., the daughter of the late Henry Wade and Betty Lou Huron Brooks. Pamela was also preceded in death by her son Eric Lee Zeigler and great-grandson, Preston Dakota Redman.

She is survived by her husband of 47 years, Russell Zeigler, of the residence; son, Joseph Zeigler of Cartersvil­le; daughters, Carey Redman of Cartersvil­le and Jackie and Clay Cain of Ranger; brother, Darrell Brooks of North Carolina; sister Marlene Fugate of Fairmount; twelve grandchild­ren, seven greatgrand­children and several close nieces and nephews.

It was Pamela’s wishes that she be cremated and no services to be held.

Linda Gilbert

Linda Greeson Gilbert, age 73 of Ranger, passed away on Tuesday, Oct. 6, 2015 at her residence surrounded by her loving family.

Linda was born on Nov. 9, 1941 in Gordon County to the late Alex F. Greeson and Daisy Stokes Greeson. She was a member of Liberty Baptist Church in Ranger. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a grandson, Kinsley Jackson Gilbert; sister, Annette Ponder; and two brothers, James E. Greeson and Charles R. Greeson.

She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Douglas M. Gilbert of Ranger; three sons, Zevan Gilbert and his wife Stephanie of Calhoun, Phillip Gilbert of Ranger, and Mark Gilbert and his wife Ginger of Calhoun; three brothers, Billy Greeson of Aragon, Jan Greeson and his wife Lana of Calhoun, and Ken Greeson and his wife Judy of Calhoun; three sisters, Mrs. A. W. French of Calhoun, Mrs. Louise Lewis of Fairmount, and Mrs. Sherrie Blalock and her husband Glenn of Calhoun; sister- in- law, Faye Gallman; and three grandchild­ren, Jaron Gilbert, C. J. Gilbert, and Shianne Gilbert also survives.

Funeral Services were conducted on Friday, Oct. 9 at 1 p. m. from the chapel of Thomas Funeral Home with Reverend Kenny Rogers and Reverend William Daniel officiatin­g. Terry and Patricia Collins will have charge of music. Interment will follow in Haven of Rest Memorial Park with Reverend Gene Ratcliff and Reverend Tim East in charge of graveside rites.

Pallbearer­s serving will be Jaron Gilbert, C. J. Gilbert, Nick Blalock, Richard Greeson, Kent Greeson, John Lewis, Bryant White, Lou White, and Nathan Wyatt.

The family received friends on Thursday evening from 5 until 9 p.m. at Thomas Funeral Home.

Mrs. Oma Nell Browning, age 89, of Resaca, departed this life Wednesday, Oct. 7, 2015 at her residence. She was born April 2, 1926 in Murray County, to the late Lon Merrill Vess and Florida Sue Coffey. She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Browning Sr.; son, Randall Leon Browning; brothers, Merrell Vess, Jay Vess, Dorset Vess, Raymond Vess, Milton Vess, Edward Vess and a sister Willena Sullivan.

Mrs. Oma Nell Browning is survived by her sons, Richard Browning Jr. and Timothy Browning both of Resaca; brother, Gene Vess; granddaugh­ter, Amanda Browning and sister-in-law, Marilyn Griffin.

Services to celebrate the life of Mrs. Oma Nell Browning will be held Saturday, Oct. 10, 2015 at 11 a.m. from Ponders Calhoun Chapel with Rev. Mark Kelley and Rev. Harold Blackstock officiatin­g. She will be laid to rest at White Chapel Memorial Gardens, 1832 Pleasant Hill RD, Duluth, GA 30096.

Frances Dyer

Mrs. Frances Martha Dyer, age 70, of Dalton, departed this life Sunday, Oct. 4, 2015 at the local hospital. Frances was born Feb. 22, 1945 in Murphy, N.C., a daughter of the late Ross and Virgie Green Hedden. She was preceded in death by her sister, Pauline Hedden, and brothers, Hilyard Hedden, Archie Hedden, Ronnie Hedden, and Beecher Hedden.

She is survived by her husband of over fifty three years, David Dyer of Dalton; son, Clark Eddie Dyer of Dalton; sisters-in –law, Mildred Woods, of Murphy, N. C.; Deloris Guthrie of Murphy, N.C.; Frances Anderson of Dalton, and Nancy Hedden of Dalton; several nieces and nephews.

Services to celebrate the life of Mrs. Frances Martha Dyer were held Wednesday, Oct. 7, 2015 at 3 p.m. at Ponders Melrose Chapel with Pastor Danny Cochran officiatin­g. She was laid to rest at Dunagan Cemetery.

Mrs. Cora Mae Burgess, age 87, of Rocky Face, Georgia, departed this life Monday morning, Oct. 5, 2015 at the local hospital. Cora was born October 3, 1928 in Dekalb County, Alabama, a daughter of the late Luther and Luevindie Frasier Bailey. She was also preceded in death by her husband of fifty nine years, R.B. Burgess, a daughter, Connie Gail Burgess, her sister, Dalpha Stanley and her brother, James Bailey.

She is survived by her sons and daughters- in- law, Clyde and Lisa Burgess of Dalton, GA, Jerry Burgess of Chatsworth, GA, Randle and Paulette Burgess of Rocky Face, GA; daughter, Jeannette Burgess of Atlanta, GA; grandchild­ren, Jason Burgess, Kristen Asbell, Alisha Poss and Kevin Fowler; eight great-grandchild­ren; several nieces and nephews.

Services to celebrate the life of Mrs. Cora Mae Burgess will be held Wednesday, Oct. 7, 2015 at 1 p.m. at Ponders Melrose Chapel with Reverend Dewey Boyd officiatin­g. She will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband at Pine Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.

Dovie Rigsby

Mrs. Dovie Rigsby, age 78, of Dalton, departed this life Monday, Oct. 5, 2015 at the local hospital. Dovie was born March 18, 1937 in Bartow County, a daughter of the late Swin F. and Eloise Beavers King. She was also preceded in death by her daughters, Mary Evone Rigsby, Frances Coats, brothers, J.D. King, Gerald King, Tommy King, Swin Lee King.

She is survived by her sons and daughter-in-law, James A. Rigsby, William Brent and Miranda Rigsby of Dalton; daughters and sons-inlaw, Gloria Rigsby and Don Crane of Rome, Elaine and James Norton of Tunnel Hill; brothers, Everett King of Chatsworth, Lavon King of Tunnel Hill; sister, Nellie Rigsby of Tunnel Hill; grandchild­ren, Daniel Abernathy, Brandon Coats, Jason Coats, Micah Norton, Ruthie Rigsby, Allie Rigsby; seven great grandchild­ren; nieces and nephews.

Services to celebrate the life of Mrs. Dovie Rigsby were held Thursday, Oct. 8, 2015 at 11 a.m. at North Whitfield Baptist Church with Reverend Lillard Stringer officiatin­g. She was laid to rest in the Colonial Hills Memorial Park Cemetery.
