It was a sloppy and rain-filled night in Dalton as the Coahulla Creek Colts we leading the Gordon Central Warriors late in the game. Final score was not available at press time due to delay of game. (For final score, visit www. prepcentralonline.com.)

There were numerous mistakes by both teams, which were having a clear impact on the game.

The first quarter was a defensive battle with both teams battling for good field position. Coahulla Creek turned the ball over three times of their 4 possession in the first half of the opening quarter, but Gordon Central couldn’t do anything with the turnovers as they were stung by multiple penalties as were the Colts.

The first score came in the second quarter on a mistake by Gordon Central. The Warriors had a fourth down deep in their territory and were set to punt. The snap sailed over the punter’s head and through the back of the end zone for a safety.

Coahulla Creek running back Aaron Croom took advantage and burst through a hole in the Gordon Central defense and scored the first touchdown of the day on a forty-three-yard rush.

The Colts got the ball back on offense and moved it down the field thanks to a Gordon Central penalty.

They were set to kick a field goal right before halftime, but it was blocked by the Warriors’ special teams unit. Coahulla Creek led Gordon Central at the half, 9-0.

In the third quarter, the game was halted for a lightening delay that lasted well over an hour and a half.

The score line remained until 2:53 in the third when Coahulla Creek sacked Gordon Central quarterback Martavius Harris for a big loss in the end zone for another safety. The score was 11-0 at that point in favor of the Colts.

Aaron Croom led the game in rushing for both teams as he rushed for 106 yards on seventeen carries with a touchdown deep into the third quarter.

Branson Towe continued to be the offensive workhorse for Gordon Central as the gritty back saw a lot of action and gained yards when he could.

Next week, the Gordon Central Warriors will host the Murray Coutny Indians in another important region matchup.
