- By Shaka L. Cobb

A 66-year-old Calhoun woman was arrested over the weekend in connection with an incident that allegedly happened between Gertrude Waggoner and a female family member.

According to a Calhoun Police incident report, on Wednesday, Sept. 30 an officer responded to the Piggly Wiggly, located at 444 Red Bud Road, to meet with a woman who stated she was assaulted and injured by Waggoner.

The report states that the woman had a bloody nose that appeared to be broken. She also had red marks and bruises on her back and sides and was missing hair that she says was pulled out by Waggoner.

According to the victim, she was arguing with Waggoner about going to get the mail and knocking on the door sending the dogs into frenzy.

The victim told the officer she had back surgery recently and other health issues.

According to the report, Waggoner shoved her into a dresser and slammed the door on her.

When the victim tried to go into another room, Waggoner grabbed her by the hair, dragging her to the floor, kicking her in the ribs and punching her in the face.

The officer went to Waggoner’s residence to get her side of the story.

According to Waggoner, the victim put her finger in her face and as she was walking by the victim, she bumped into the door and her hip gave out. At that time she fell on the victim, knocking her to the floor.

After speaking with a witness and looking at injuries, the officer decided to charge Waggoner with battery under the family violence act.

The victim asked the officers to hold off on an arrest until she could get her belongings out the house and into storage.

According Lt. Tony Pyle, Waggoner was arrested on Friday Oct. 9 and bonded out the same day.
