- By Tonia Davis

Calhoun/ Gordon County’s current Junior Mayor, Tripp Morrison, presented officials with the game ball at the Friday, Oct. 9 Sonoraville High School game against Calhoun High School. The presentation was an effort to bring attention to three candidates currently campaigning for the position as 2016 Calhoun/ Gordon County Junior Mayor.

Candidates are in the process of collecting votes from the community in the form of $ 1 donations, all of which will benefit Prevent Child Abuse- Gordon County and the Family Resource Center. The winner will be the candidate that collects the most votes for the organization. All funds raised with the election will go directly to offset gaps in funding for programs at the Family Resource Center of Gordon County, which are sustained only by United Way, private donations and grants.

In the campaign for 2015 Junior Mayor, $ 14,389 was raised for the agency.

Caroline Hasty, a 10th grade student at Calhoun High School, Marley Gentry, a 9th grade student at Calhoun High School, and Mallory Green, a 7th grade student at Red Bud Middle School, are this year’s candidates.

Votes will be collected until November 2.
