Bernadette O’Neal

Mrs. Bernadette “Bernie” Zimmerman O’Neal, 69, of Chatsworth, died Monday, Oct. 12, 2015, in Calhoun. She was born in Akron, Ohio on Oct. 17, 1945, daughter of the late Victor and Mary Turanchik Zimmerman.

Mrs. O’Neal had formerly been employed with Fafnir. She attended Barrett Road Church of God.

Survivors include her sons and daughter-inlaw, John and Gina O’Neal, and Duck O’Neal, all of Calhoun; her daughters and sons-in-law, Jackie and David Bradley, Sherri and Dale Peardon, and Andrea and Danny Hicks, all of Calhoun; a sister and brother-in-law, Delores and Lee Street of Akron; grandchild­ren, Jon Jon, Summer, Dustin, Zach, Valerie, Stephanie, Jennifer, Toni, Destiny, Davin, Tanner, Kinley, Natashia, and Antoni; fifteen great-grandchild­ren; her loving companion, Greg Filyaw; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services to honor the life of Mrs. Bernadette “Bernie” Zimmerman O’Neal were held Thursday, Oct. 15 at 2 p.m. from the chapel of Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home, with Pastor Norris Sexton officiatin­g. Music was arranged by Dale Peardon. Burial was in Gordon Memorial Gardens. Pallbearer­s serving will include Dustin Howard, Jon Jon O’Neal, Zach Bradley, Joseph O’Neal, Shawn Bailey, and Kerry DeHoff. Honorary pallbearer­s are Ricky Simpson and Josh Haberman.

The O’Neal family received friends at the funeral home on Wednesday, Oct. 14, from 5 until 9 p.m.

Oliver Hensley

Mr. Oliver Berry Hensley, 88 of Rome, formerly of Calhoun, died Tuesday, Oct. 13, 2015 at Floyd Medical Center. He was born in Murray County on Sept. 13, 1927, son of the late Joe and Claudie Stanley Hensley. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Ellen Pulliam Hensley in 1994; brothers, Clayton Hensley, Mark Hensley, Luke Hensley, and Lewis Hensley; and sisters, Nola Buttrum, Dora Gentry, and Ossie Rogers.

He was a veteran, serving his country in the U.S. Army. Mr. Hensley and his family moved to Gordon County when he was a young boy. In 1995, he moved to Rome to live with his daughter, Donna Hensley, until his death. He was a member of New Town Baptist Church.

He leaves behind his son, David Hensley, of Calhoun; his daughters, Sharon Chastain of Rome, and Donna Hensley of Rome; a sister and brotherin-law, Lela Mae and Sala Weaver of Ranger; grandchild­ren, Brian Hensley, LaShanna Pickens, Kayla Burt, and Connor Chastain; and great-grandchild­ren, Skylar, Andrew, Amber, and Tabitha Pickens; and Ethan, Liam, and Penny Burt.

Services to honor the life of Mr. Oliver Berry Hensley were held Friday, Oct. 16 at 2 p.m. from New Town Baptist Church, with Rev. Terry Hensley officiatin­g. Interment followed in Haven of Rest Memorial Park with military honors. Pallbearer­s will include Kenneth Hensley, Danny Hensley, Trammel Hensley, Jack Hensley, Nevin Pulliam, Randy Pulliam, Steve Pulliam, and Tony Buchanan.

The Hensley family received friends at the funeral home Thursday, Oct. 15 from 5 until 9 p.m.
