It was homecoming night at Gordon Central, and everyone enjoyed it. Unfortunately, none of the Gordon Central fans were happy about the final score of the game as region foe Murray County (4-3) soundly beat the Gordon Central Warriors (1-8), 40-7. The win gave Murray three region wins on the year.

The Murray offense had a solid night against the Warriors. Murray opened the scoring with less than four minutes gone by in the first quarter, when running back Tucker Gregg ran it in from four yards out for a touchdown. The resulting extra point was no good, but Murray led Gordon Central at that point, 6-0.

Several minutes later, Gregg took the handoff, broke away from Warrior defenders, and sprinted fifty-nine yards to the house. With 1:05 left in the quarter, the speedster galloped seventyfour yards for another touchdown. Gregg would finish the night with 172 yards rushing and three touchdowns.

The score was 20-0, in favor of the Indians, at the end of the first quarter.

Running back Branson Towe did a little bit of everything once again for the Warriors, and he had an amazing night. He rushed for 149 yards on thirty carries with a touchdown, which was the only score of the second period.

Towe also caught a pass from the backfield, had several really nice kick returns, and even blocked an extra point. He was the main bright spot for a Warrior team that has struggled moving the ball.

The offense did pretty well in the first half and had some solid drives, but they failed to capitalize when it mattered most. In fact, the Warriors missed a field goal attempt and fumbled the exchange on another try, when their offense stalled in the red zone. The halftime score was 20-7.

In the second half, it was all Murray County. Indian quarterback Dominick Genitempo had a great two quarters as he threw three touchdown passes and finished with 162 yards through the air.

The final score was the Murray County Indians 40 – Gordon Central 7.

Gordon Central suffered another tough loss on Friday night, but you have to admire their never-give-up attitude. The Warriors will have a bye next week, but their path grows more difficult from there as they will finish the season with Senior Night versus North Murray and then a game at Adairsville.
