were dispatched to the private residence shortly before 7 a. m. on Wednesday, May 11, in response to a report of a suspicious death. The deputies found the body of Greeson, who family members reported had possibly been involved in a physical altercation the night of May 10. At that time, Sheriff Ralston reported an arrest had been made in connection with the investigation and no other suspects were at large.

Felony murder and aggravated assault charges have been filed against Steven Shane Childers, age 34, also of 371 Meadowlark Lane in connection with Greeson’s death. He was arrested without incident shortly after 8 a. m. on Wednesday, May 11 for battery and suspicion of murder. Detectives with the Gordon County Sheriff’s Office executed four search warrants, collected multiple items of physical evidence throughout the day on Wednesday and Thursday morning, as well as interviewed a number of witnesses. According to Sheriff Ralston, deputies believe that Childers beat and kicked Greeson near the victim’s mobile home around 10 p. m. Tuesday night and that alcohol may have been involved. Acquaintances put Greeson to bed in his home, where he died sometime before 7 a.m. Wednesday morning.

According to Sheriff Ralston, the investigation is ongoing and there is a possibility of additional charges being filed. Sheriff Ralston expressed his thanks to the Gordon County Coroner’s Office and the GBI State Crime Laboratory for expediting the autopsy process in this case, and also to the officers involved for the matter being swiftly resolved. According to Ralston, the results of the investigation and charges will be forwarded to the District Attorney’s Office for prosecution.
