Northwest Georgia Regional Fair looking for local entertainment

- By Brandi Owczarz

A tradition in the community for 44 years, the Northwest Georgia Fair opens on Friday, Sept. 9, running through Saturday, Sept. 17. This year, according to Fair President Bud Owens, the annual fair is putting a greater emphasis on local entertainment.

“We are looking at the very best in entertainment that Calhoun/ Gordon County has to offer,” said Owens.

With the fair being just around the corner, it will provide perfect opportunities for showcasing local and regional talent. The fair is combing the area for musical talent that would like to apply to perform during the nine- day event.

Fair officials say that while a great deal of emphasis is placed on topics related to agriculture, education, farming and other themes, they also want to continue the spotlight that’s placed on the area’s musical talent.

“We’re continuing our effort this year to focus much of the fair’s entertainment on what we all recognize as one of the regions greatest treasures, music,” said Owens.

In addition to the Carnival Midway, the fair features some of the best livestock competitions in the state, Fairest of The Fair Pageants for all ages, ground entertainment and attractions such as Circus Incredible, a show by the World Famous Wallenda Family; Magic in Motion; Ultimate Laser Tag Experience; Craftsman Village; Possum Holler Kids Show and many other exciting attractions. You can see exotic animals from around the world at the Exotic Zoo and each night you can see regional Livestock and Blue Ribbon Competitions and Pageants. The Fair provides an excellent opportunity for musical acts to perform, be seen, heard and possibly discovered by the thousands who attend the Northwest Georgia Fair annually.

The Northwest Georgia Fair, a family tradition since 1972, is held annually in the heart of Northwest Georgia at the Cherokee Capitol Fairgrounds on Highway 53 toward Rome. Providing family entertainment in a welcoming environment, a magnificent carnival midway, and fun for all ages, the Fair is visited each year by thousands from all across Northwest Georgia.
