Calhoun’s Coach Lamb retires from teaching

- Staff Reports

Coach Hal Lamb officially retired on May 31, 2016 following seventeen years as a teacher for Calhoun City Schools.

Prior to his employment with CCS, Coach Lamb spent nine years in Cartersville Middle School and three years at Upson- Lee High School.

In a letter to Superintendent Michele Taylor, Coach Lamb stated, “It has been an amazing journey. I walked into Calhoun High School in 1999 as a very young head coach with a less than stellar coaching record. During my time here, I have been fortunate enough to accom- plish many career goals. I have also had the privilege to work with outstanding teachers, administrators and other coaches. My greatest achievement, however, has been my students and players, who have consistently performed well on local and state levels. I am grateful for all the great opportunities and experiences I have had at CHS over the years. You, the administrators, and the members of the Board of Education have always given me the support I needed. I would like to thank you for having faith in me, and for giving me the opportunity to learn and grow in my career.”

Following Lamb’s summer time off, the Board of Education approved his return as athletic director and head football coach. “Tonight we recognize the contributions that Coach Lamb made as a teacher in the classroom over the past 30 years and we also acknowledge the profound impact that he has had on the athletes he has mentored and coached over the years. While he has won numerous awards and championships, his humility and appreciation to his players, coaches and the community as a whole make him our local hero. We know that Coach Lamb will continue to lead an excellent athletic program for us. We’re looking forward to a great future.”
