Curtis returns for Mercer, contributes in overtime win
Several former local football standouts have gone on to the next level to play college football and many are making an impact for their teams this season.
More than 30 players that graduated from either Calhoun, Gordon Central or Sonoraville can be found on college football rosters throughout the nation, and several of those saw action in their team’s most recent game.
Here’s a roundup of the former local players who appeared in the box score and how they did last week:
CHANDLER CURTIS, Mercer, Calhoun
Curtis had one catch for 42 yards in the Bears’ 33-30 overtime win at Virginia Military Institute on Saturday. The junior receiver also had a 30-yard kickoff return and had 10 yards rushing on two attempts.
TAYLOR LAMB, Appalachian State, Calhoun
Lamb threw for 143 yards on 13-of-25 passing with a touchdown and an interception in the Mountaineers’ 17-3 home win over Georgia State on Saturday. The redshirt-junior starting quarterback also ran for 28 yards.
ADAM GRIFFITH, Alabama, Calhoun
Griffith went 2-of-3 on field goals on Saturday with makes from 44 and 24 yards in Alabama’s 34-6 home win over Kentucky. The redshirt-senior kicker also handled kickoff duties and averaged 64 yards per kick with four touchbacks as well as making 4-for-4 extra point attempts.
GABE FREEMAN, West Georgia, Calhoun
Freeman had one solo and five assisted tackles for a total of five in West Georgia’s 24-23 loss at North Alabama on Saturday. The senior lineback had a half a tackle for loss among his stops.
JIREH WILSON, Wofford, Calhoun
Wilson had three solo and one assisted tackle for a total of four in the Terriers’ 28-26 loss at Samford on Saturday. One of the freshman linebacker’s stops was a tackle-for-loss.
SEBASTIAN WILLER, Georgia State, Calhoun
Willer, a redshirt junior, started at right tackle for the Panthers in their 17-3 loss at Appalachian State on Saturday.
MARCUS (MJ) REYNOLDS, Lane College, Gordon Central
Reynolds ran for 103 yards on 13 carries with a touchdown in the Dragons’ 12-9 loss at Lincoln (Mo.) on Saturday. The sophomore quarterback also threw for 42 yards on 7-of15 passing.
MATT EDGAR, Lindsey Wilson, Sonoraville
Edgar, a senior kicker, suc- cessfully held on 7-of-7 extra points in the Blue Raiders’ 53-17 home win over Union College to move to 6-0.
TRISTAN FULLER, Sewanee, Calhoun
Fuller, a sophomore linebacker, had three solo tackles in the Tigers’ 36-21 home loss against Rhodes on Saturday.
BLAINE ANDERSON, Shorter, Calhoun
Anderson, a freshman defensive lineman, had one solo and one assisted tackle for a total of two, including a half a tackle-for-loss in the Hawks’ 43-28 home loss last Thursday to West Alabama.
THOMAS LESTER, West Georgia, Calhoun
The sophomore receiver Lester had one catch for five yards in the Wolves’ 24-23 loss at North Alabama on Saturday.
TRENT FRIX, Georgia, Calhoun
Frix, a junior long snapper, participated in the Bulldogs’ 34-31 loss at home against Tennessee but didn’t record any stats.
DJ PRATHER, Chattanooga, Gordon Central
Prather, a redshirt-junior defensive lineman, participated but didn’t record any stats in the Mocs’ 37-7 win at East Tennessee State on Saturday.
DREW McCRACKEN, Kennesaw State, Calhoun
McCracken, a sophomore long snapper, participated but didn’t record any stats in the Owls’ 52-42 win at Furman on Saturday to bring their record to 3-1 on the season.
KOLBY REYNOLDS, Mississippi College, Calhoun
Reynolds, a freshman defensive back, participated but didn’t record any stats in the Choctaws’ 61-31 loss on the road at Delta State last Thursday.
CARTER EDWARDS, Berry, Calhoun
Edwards, a senior defensive back, participated but didn’t record any stats in the Vikings’ 34-10 loss at Washington (Mo.) on Saturday.
