CALHOUN AQUATIC CENTER

— The Calhoun Aquatic Center is open to the entire community offering group and private swim lessons, lap swimming, liquid fitness classes, pool parties, a fitness room, and is home to Northwest Georgia Aquatics, a sanctioned USA Swimming & US Masters Swimming competitiv­e, year-round swim team. DIVING PROGRAM AT CALHOUN AQUATIC CENTER

— The Nitros will offer competitiv­e diving at the Calhoun Aquatic Center for several different age groups, including high school and novice divers. The program is open to anyone interested in the northwest Georgia area. All levels and abilities are welcome to join — athletes four years old and up with the pre-requisite of being able to swim in deep water. The Calhoun Aquatic Center has two Dura-Flex Diving Boards and the diving program will compete in USA and AAU Diving. The program will be led by Phil Lesselroth, the current head diving coach at the McCallie School. Practice days will be Sundays 4:30-5:45 p.m. Annual registrati­on fee is $50 and monthly fee is $75 per person. The program starts June 5. CALHOUN RECREATION DEPARTMENT YOUTH BASKETBALL REGISTRATI­ON

— The Calhoun Recreation Department will hold registrati­on for youth basketball from Oct. 3-Nov. 4 and late registrati­on Nov. 5-10. Registrati­on fee is $45 and late registrati­on is $55. Youth basketball is open to girls ages 7-12 and boys ages 7-14 with age cut-off date on Dec. 31, 2016. Registrati­on is available in person at the Calhoun Rec Dept. at 601 South River Street Monday, Tuesday and Thursday from 8 a.m.-9 p.m. and Wednesday and Friday 8 a.m.-5 p.m. or registrati­on is available online at www.calhounrec.com. GORDON CENTRAL ALUMNI BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT

— Gordon Central will host their first-ever alumni basketball tournament on Saturday, Oct. 15 at the Gordon Central High gym. The cost is $100 per team and registrati­on will last through Oct. 1. There will be a men’s and women’s bracket and 75 percent of each team must be Gordon Central High alumni. Brackets will be posted one week prior to the tournament. Sign-in will start in the gym lobby at 8 a.m. the day of the tournament. T-Shirts will be given to all participan­ts, and t-shirt sizes need to be turned in by Oct. 1. ELKS SOCCER SHOOT 2016

— The Elks Soccer Shoot will be held at the River Park Soccer Complex on Oct. 16 at 2 p.m. It is free to compete and there will be girls and boys age divisions including U8, U10, U12 and U14. The top three scorers in each age group will receive medals. Sign-up will be available on the day of the competitio­n. U12 and U14 contestant­s will take shots from the penalty mark onto a regulation goal that is divided up into a grid with each spot on the grid being worth a set amount of points. Most points will win. U8 and U10 contestant­s take shots onto five PVC goals of various sizes. Winners of each age group advance to the Northwest District competitio­n to be held at the River Park Soccer Complex on Nov. 6. For any questions, contact Chuck Ruth at 770-548-5620.

CALHOUN MOOSE LODGE TURKEY SHOOT

— The Calhoun Moose Lodge will host a Turkey Shoot, starting Oct. 16 at 1 p.m. and going each Sunday after that. It will be held at 329 Prater Lake Road, Calhoun, Ga. 30701. Call 706-629-4618 to sign up or for more informatio­n.

BOBCAT BONANZA CAR SHOW

— The second ever Bobcat Bonanza Car Show will be held at the new Catoosa County Campus of Georgia Northweste­rn (6450 Alabama Highway, Ringgold) from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 22. Entry fee is $15 pre-show and $20 on the day of the show. Vendor booths are available for $25 each. Registrati­on will begin at 9 a.m. on the morning of the show. Awards will be given for the top three in the following categories: Pre-1950 cars, 1950’s cars, 1960’s cars, 1970’s cars and 1980’s cars. Top five awards will be given for Volkswagen­s, trucks, motorcycle­s and rat rods. In addition, there will be awards for People’s Choice, Athlete’s Choice and Coaches’ Choice. Goody bags will be given out to the first 25 cars to arrive. Admission for spectators is free. Concession­s will be available, along with games, a silent auction, music and a 50/50 raffle. GORDON CENTRAL PRESEASON YOUTH BASKETBALL CLINIC

— The Gordon Central High girls and boys basketball programs will host a preseason youth basketball clinic on Oct. 29-30. The clinic is open to players in first through eighth grade and it will run from 8:30 a.m.-12 p.m. on Saturday and 1:30-4:30 p.m. on Sunday. The cost for the clinic is $30. Campers will learn fundamenta­l skills of dribbling, passing, shooting and defense. It will be a great time to get a jump start to the season. Each camper will receive a GC basketball clinic t-shirt and free admission to a Gordon Central home basketball game. Deadline for pre-registrati­on is Oct. 13, but registrati­on will also be taken at the door on the day of the clinic. CALHOUN TENNIS ACADEMY JUNIOR PROGRAM

— The Calhoun Tennis Academy will have a Fall Junior Program October through November at the Calhoun Tennis Center at 601 South River Street. The class schedule is Tuesdays and/or Thursdays 3:45-4:30 p.m. for players ages 5-8, 4:30-5:30 p.m. for players ages 8-11 and 5:30-7 p.m. for players 11 and over. Pros will use their best judgment to place players in the correct group based on their age and skill level. HERO HUSTLE 5K

— The Harbin Hero Hustle 5K and Two-Mile Health Walk is set for Oct. 15 in downtown Rome. Registrati­on for the event is open at rfpra.com. Online registrati­on costs $25 for the 5K and $20 for the health walk. Race-day registrati­on costs $30 for the 5K race. There will also be a prerace costume contest with awards going to the best hero, best villain, best junior hero (age 10 and under), best league of heroes (ensemble of five or more) and best dynamic duo. Packet pickup will be Oct. 14 at Harbin Clinic Vitality Fitness.

ALZHEIMER’S GOLF TOURNAMENT

— The Doc Miller Memorial Alzheimer’s Walk Benefit Golf Tournament will be Oct. 22 at Callier Springs Country Club. Tee off is at 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. for the two-person scramble. The cost is $100 per team and proceeds will go to the Doc Miller Memorial Alzheimer’s Walk. Registrati­on is at 8 a.m. and 1 p.m. on the day of the tournament. Raffles and giveaway will be held as well as longest drive and closest to the pin contests. HALL OF FAME GOLF TOURNAMENT

— The Willard Nixon Sports Hall of Fame Golf Tournament will be Oct. 27 at Stonebridg­e Golf Course to benefit the John Pinson Jr. Student Athlete Award Scholarshi­p Program sponsored by the RomeFloyd Sports Hall of Fame. Team entry is $300 and covers green fees, cart fees, range balls and lunch for a team of four. Hole sponsorshi­ps are also available.
