AgGeorgia Farm Credit hosts free financial training for local farmers
North Georgia farmers and prospective farmers enjoyed a free, nationally award- winning financial training workshop last month at the Gordon County Agricultural Center. The program, AGAware ® , was developed with the purpose of promoting and educating the next generation of farmers. With the assistance of the Gordon County Young Farmers, the center hosted over 30 attendees for the class. The group learned about topics such as Balance Sheets, Income Statements, Family Finance and Family Budgeting, Risk Management, Accrual Income, Applying for Financing and Preparing a Business Plan. The program also enabled attendees to obtain certification for FSA Direct Borrower Training Credit if desired.
“The Farm Credit System has 100- year history of serving U. S. agriculture and rural America,” said AGAware Team Manager Van McCall. “In support of that mission, the Farm Credit Associations of Georgia are leaders in providing credit and education to young, beginning, small, and minority farmers in the state. Our hope is that the AGAware program, along with the support of other key agricultural entities throughout the state, will help ensure that future farmers will be prepared and strong financially so they may continue doing what it is they love.”
