Lamb leads way in rivalry win; Edgar makes first start
Several former local football standouts have gone on to the next level to play college football and many are making an impact for their teams this season.
More than 30 players that graduated from either Calhoun, Gordon Central or Sonoraville can be found on college football rosters throughout the nation, and several of those saw action in their team’s most recent game.
Here’s a roundup of the former local players who appeared in the box score and how they did last week:
TAYLOR LAMB, Appalachian State, Calhoun
Lamb ran for 94 yards on 10 carries and had two touchdowns on the ground in the Mountaineers’ 34- 10 victory at rival Georgia Southern last Thursday. The redshirt- junior quarterback also was 16-of-27 passing for 199 yards with two interceptions.
MATT EDGAR, Lindsey Wilson, Sonoraville
Edgar made his first start of the season at kicker and went 6-for-8 on extra points in the Blue Raiders’ 54-33 win over Campbellsville on Saturday. The senior also handled kickoff duties and averaged 50 yards on nine kicks with two touchbacks.
MARCUS (MJ) REYNOLDS, Lane College, Gordon Central
Reynolds had a huge day in the Dragons’ 35-21 victory at Kentucky State on Saturday with 232 total offensive yards. The sophomore quarterback ran for 106 yards on 15 carries with two touchdowns and threw for 126 yards and two touchdowns on 13-of-20 passing.
CHANDLER CURTIS, Mercer, Calhoun
Curtis started at receiver for the Bears and had six catches for 60 yards and a touchdown in their 31-21 loss at Wofford on Saturday. The junior also had a 25-yard kickoff return and one rushing attempt for five yards.
GABE FREEMAN, West Georgia, Calhoun
The senior linebacker Freeman had one solo and one assisted tackle for a total of two, including a half a tackle-for-loss, in West Georgia’s 44-0 win at Shorter on Saturday.
JIREH WILSON, Wofford, Calhoun
The freshman linebacker Wilson had one solo and two assisted tackles for a total of three in the Terriers’ 31-21 win at home over Mercer on Saturday.
DJ PRATHER, Chattanooga, Gordon Central
Prather, a redshirt- junior defensive lineman, had one solo and one assisted tackle for a total of two in the Mocs’ 38-25 at Western Carolina on Saturday.
SEBASTIAN WILLER, Georgia State, Calhoun
Willer, a redshirt-ju- nior, started at right tackle for the Panthers in their 13-10 loss at South Alabama on Saturday.
TRISTAN FULLER, Sewanee, Calhoun
Fuller, a sophomore linebacker, had three solo tackles in the Tigers’ 49-30 home loss to Chicago on Saturday.
THOMAS LESTER, West Georgia, Calhoun
Lester, a sophomore receiver, had one catch for 21 yards in the Wolves’ 44-0 victory over Shorter in Rome on Saturday.
BLAINE ANDERSON, Shorter, Calhoun
Anderson, a freshman defensive lineman, had one solo tackle in the Hawks’ 44-0 loss at home to West Georgia on Saturday.
KAELAN RILEY, Mercer, Calhoun
Riley, a freshman quarterback, participated in Mercer’s 31-21 road loss to Wofford on Saturday but didn’t record any stats.
TRENT FRIX, Georgia, Calhoun
Frix, a junior long snapper, participated in the Bulldogs’ 24-10 loss against rival Florida in Jacksonville on Saturday but didn’t record any stats.
DREW McCRACKEN, Mercer, Calhoun
McCracken, a sophomore long snapper, participated in the Owls’ 49-17 road win at Monmouth on Saturday but didn’t record any stats.
DREW McENTYRE, The Citadel, Calhoun
McEntyre, a freshman offensive lineman, saw reserve action in the Bulldogs’ 45-10 home win over East Tennessee State on Saturday. The Citadel is currently undefeated at 8-0 and ranked No. 5 in the FCS as they head into a home matchup this weekend vs. Samford.
