breaking off a long run for the White team.

The game came to an end in a tie following a potential game-winning field goal attempt by the White side that came up a little short.

Pate said the Spring Game was a solid measuring stick of where his team stood after two weeks of drills.

“You try to see what your team will look like in the Fall, and who you think can help you out on Fridays and who needs a little more work to get there,” said Pate. “Our big focus this Spring was to set the tempo and intensity. It doesn’t matter what we were doing, we were trying to set a fast tempo, whether that was transition from group to group in practice or getting reps in or just moving around on the field quickly, we wanted to keep a fast tempo. I think that made for smoother and more productive practices this Spring.”

The Phoenix will now transition into their Summer conditioning program, which will include a lot of work in the weight room, agility training and various camps and passing dates. Pate said they will start the Summer program on May 30 and look to use the time wisely to get bigger, faster and stronger.

“We’re going to use June to work on getting stronger and hit the weight room hard,” said Pate. “We’ll also incorporate some agility work on the turf. We just want to help them become more complete players and get a jump on things going into the Fall.”

The Phoenix, who have been to the State playoffs each of the last four seasons and won their first-round game the last two years, will begin Fall practice in early August. They will play their preseason scrimmage at home against Gordon Central on Aug. 18 and then open the regular season on Aug. 25 at Model.
