- By Brandi Owczarz

The Calhoun Police Department on Sunday afternoon released the official incident report from a Saturday afternoon arrest of two females at Wal- Mart in Calhoun, where a video spread on social media of a CPD officer forcibly removed one of the females from the car she was driving. The video in question, however, did not appear to capture the whole incident in its entirety.

Officers with CPD were dispatched to Wal- Mart, located on West Belmont Drive in Calhoun, shortly after 2 p. m. on Saturday, Aug. 5 in response to a shoplifting in progress. Upon arrival, an officer, identified as B. Defoor, entered WalMart and attempted to locate security officials, but E- 911 advised the officer that security would meet him outside in front of the building.

According to the report, Officer Defoor exited Wal- Mart on the general merchandise side, while Wal- Mart security excited from the grocery side of the building yelling to Defoor that two females were running and getting into a black car. Defoor advised another officer who had arrived on scene, identified as Sgt. Carson, that the suspects were backing out in a black vehicle. When the driver backed away from the spot she was parked in, she did so in “a fast and aggressive manner to avoid ( the officer) running up the parking lot... it appeared she was going to travel in a direction away from the building,” stated the report.

Sgt. Carson activated the blue lights on his vehicle and pulled in front of the black car, identified as a black Nissan Altima with a Tennessee tag, in attempt to stop the car. The driver made an evasive maneuver to avoid the car, then turned the wheels and, according to the report, at a high rate of speed, began driving directly toward the front of the building in an area filled with pedestrians. Officer Defoor stepped in the drivers lane of traffic to “attempt to stop her due to her erratic driving, and the heavy pedestrian traffic in the immediate area. I believed ( the pedestrians) were in danger of being struck by her vehicle during her attempt to avoid arrest by police.”

At that time, Defoor announced himself as a police officer and drew his service weapon, advising the driver, identified as Macy Danielle Lear, 24, of 24 Millswood Street, Clarksville, Tenn., to stop the vehicle. According to the report, Lear then
