What has President Trump done in office?

- Ken Herron

I have seen several lists of things the President has been able to accomplish, but I received an email from my good friend Wanda Richards last week that had a particularly long list. Wanda lives in North Florida’s Villages. She forwarded it from her sister, Roz Borders, from South Florida who originated it. I am not going to copy the list for you, but I will write about some of the most outstanding items.

Number one on every list is the appointment and confirmation of Supreme Court Judge Gorsuch. This will keep the Supreme Court on the Conservative edge for a few years. The Supreme Court has nine judges. Five are conservative and four are liberal. It may be that one of the liberal judges will retire during President Trump’s term and we can change the judges to six conservatives and three liberals.

In the war on ISIS, President Trump ordered a Tomahawk Missile raid in Syria and fired 59 missiles in one night on the ISIS bases, which seriously reduced the ISIS ability to respond. In international trade, he took us out of the Trans Pacific Partnership ( TPP), which was getting us into more bad trade relationships. Illegal immigration through Mexico has been reduced by seventy percent over the Rio Grande River. This is the lowest number in 17 years. Portions of the Border Wall are out for bids to the local contractors, so construction will begin soon on the wall.

New home construction is at a seven year high this year. President Trump took us out of the Paris Accords that was dealing with global warming. We are no longer trying to reduce CO2 emissions. The Keystone Pipeline is approved for final construction and its completion will substantially increase our own availability of USA crude oil. Our NATO allies are now contributing to NATO to help to cover the cost of their own defense.

American businesses have created over 600,000 new jobs. Unemployment levels are the lowest since 2007. Median household income is at the highest level in seven years. American businesses have saved more than $ 89 billion due to rollbacks of bad regulations. Some of the coal mines are now producing coal again due to rollbacks on the EPA restrictions. The travel ban from certain Muslim countries has been reinstated. We want to avoid the problems that the Muslims are causing in Europe. We are deporting violent illegal immigrants. The sanctuary cities have been notified to keep ICE notified of illegal immigrants that are arrested or their federal funds will be withheld. Congress has passed 41 bills that President Trump has signed into law. We have cut $ 600 million from the amount of money that we send to the UN for peacekeeping purposes. The government publishes a Consumer Confidence rating on the economy and it is 125.6 which is the highest it has been since the year 2000. The three indicators on the stock markets are at an all- time high and do not appear to be coming back down soon. The employment rules have been changed for the Veterans Administration and they can now terminate bad employees. In an emergency, Veterans can now use local services and it will be paid by the VA.

China has removed their ban on importing of American beef and now the market is open to China for our cattle farmers. President Trump has created commissions to study and control child trafficking. He has a commission studying voter fraud. There is a commission studying prescription drug addiction. The President issued an executive order forbidding the IRS from unfairly harassing religious organizations by withholding licenses or taxing them. The states now have the authority to give drug tests to recipients of unemployment benefits. The American wood suppliers were having trouble competing with Canadian wood suppliers. President Trump negotiated a 20 percent tariff on Canadian wood coming into this country which has helped American suppliers substantially. The President has pledged to assist historic black colleges and universities. He has established an office to assist Women in Entrepreneurship. He has created an office to assist victims of illegal immigrant crimes. The President repealed the Obama Department of Transportation ruling, which had taken power away from local governments to be involved with local roads and infrastructure planning where federal funds were involved. The President has become personally involved where companies have announced that they are moving their manufacturing outside the United States. Many of them have reversed their decisions.

The President has pledged that any time a new regulation becomes the law of the land, two old regulations will be removed. One analyst has reported that President Trump has accomplished more to stop government interference into people’s lives than any president in the history of America. President Trump advised his cabinet on March 15 of this year that they had six months to trim the fat from their organization and improve its efficiency. The President cannot refuse the pay check that is written for him, but each month until now he has taken the check and signed it and given it to some department that is in need. Veterans have received some of the funds and education has also received funds. In order to reduce spending, the President has blocked the building of a new FBI headquarters for the time being.

I trust this will satisfy some of the folks that say that President Trump is not getting anything done in Washington. He is being hindered on some issues by both Republicans and Democrats but he is still getting things done. The swamp is not just Democrats. Many Republicans are an entrenched part of the establishment that is trying to maintain their current status.

Republican Senators that are at the end of their term and are not supporting President Trump on ObamaCare may find they have problems with being re- elected in 2018. By that time, ObamaCare is going to be failing all over the country. Even some Democrats will encounter problems with being re- elected since they did not vote to rebuild our medical program. There are ten Democratic senators up for re- election from states that voted for President Trump. He will campaign in those states for their Republican opponents and some of the Democrats will lose.
