Local music teachers, students to perform at Harris Arts Center

Join John Harris, Philip Hare, Kaytlyn Bohannon and their talented students as they present “Community Showcase,” a varied repertoire of vocal and instrument­al favorites, at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 12 at the Harris Arts Center.

Special guest, Elizabeth “Lizzy” Dutch, recently named the Distinguis­hed Young Woman of Georgia 2018, also shares the stage with her beautiful vocals.

Guitar instructor at Pete’s Music City and founding member of the local band REVOLVER, John Harris will feature his guitar students Tyler Abercrombi­e, 12, Cole Greeson, 15, Zack McDougle, 15 and Luke Smith, 16.

John has been honored through the years to play with such artists as Marty Stuart’s band “The Superlativ­es,” Nashville producer/ guitarist Dann Huff, and Nashville guitarist David White; also, with Calhoun native, producer/ songwriter, Monty Powell.

Blaire Terrell, from Cleveland, Tenn., Will Bradley and Jayden Davis, Chatsworth, and Nancy Gentry, Calhoun – all students of vocal coach Philip Hare, are among the evening’s featured performers. Members of Instrument­s of Grace, a progressiv­e blue grass/folk group from Lafayette, Amy White (vocals), Dale Pack ( bass guitar) and Jim Chandler (lead guitar and vocals) are also guests of Mr. Hare.

Philip Hare has been a part of the music business in “some way, shape or form” for more than 30 years. Singing is second nature to him; at age three, Philip started singing with his father accompanyi­ng him at church. Philip is not only a vocal coach, but a studio owner, worship pastor and touring musician.

Brooke Landry and Lyla McElwee, students of Kaytlyn Reese Bohannon, will perform vocal selections.

Kaytlyn Bohannon is a native of Calhoun and teaches youth drama classes at the Harris Arts Center. Kaytlyn received a BA in Vocal Performanc­e from Coventry University, England, a Masters degree from Berry College and is K-12 music certified in the state of Georgia.
