Gordon County 4-H Livestock Exhibitors SHINE!
On Saturday, Aug. 5, 2017, Gordon County 4-H hosted the Northwest Georgia Lamb Classic and the Gordon County 4-H Market Goat Show at the Northwest Georgia Research and Education Center Livestock Pavilion.
The Northwest Georgia Lamb Classic was first of the two shows and included twenty-one exhibitors. Thirteen of the twenty-one were from Gordon County 4-H. Forty-one head of lambs were entered from all across the state of Georgia. The champion winners from each showmanship category were as follows: from Gordon County 4-H - 1st and 2nd gradeHenry Duggin; 3rd and 4th gradeLowry Duggin; 5th and 6th grade-Ben Williams; from South Habersham Middle FFA - 7th and 8th grade-Cassie Cantrell; from Gordon County 4-H-9th and 10th grade- Gabrielle Ralston and 11th and 12th grade- Gracy Sexton. The Judge, Corey Wilkins, selected the Top 5, they were as follows: from Gordon County 4-H-Grand ChampionBrooke Williams; from Franklin Co. 4-H-Reserve Champion- Carlie Christian; from Gordon County 4-H3rd Overall-Ben Williams, 4th Overall- Breana Manning, and 5th OverallLowry Duggin.
In the Gordon County 4-H Market Goat Show, there were fifty total exhibitors; six were Gordon County 4-H’ers. Seventy-six head of market goats traveled from all across the state of Georgia to exhibit. The champion winners from each showmanship category were as follow: From Rabun Co. 4-H-1st and 2nd grade - Wesley McCrackin; from Franklin Co. 4-H3rd and 4th grade - Carlie Christian; Gordon Co. 4-H-5th and 6th grade - Ben Williams; from Clear Creek Middle FFA - 7th and 8th grade- Jacob Jenkins; Gordon Co. 4-H - 9th and 10th grade - Jazmine Ralston; and from Dade Co. 4-H - 11th and 12th grade- Brett Dyer.
As in the lamb show, the judge selected Top 5 goats: Grand Champion and 3rd Overall - Shelby Stevenson from Pickens FFA; from Gordon Co. 4-H - Reserve Champion- Ben Williams; 4th Overall - Brett Dyer from Dade Co. 4-H, and 5th Overall - Megan Cattafi from Franklin Co. 4-H.
