Lo­cal li­brary to host Black His­tory Month pro­gram

Come cel­e­brate Black His­tory Month by step­ping back in time with Har­riet Tub­man and the Un­der­ground Railroad! On Tuesday, Feb. 6, the Cal­houn-Gor­don County Li­brary is host­ing a special pro­gram at 7 p.m. This pro­gram is pre­sented by his­tor­i­cal ac­tress Joanna Mad­dox in part­ner­ship with Cal­houn-Gor­don County Pub­lic Li­brary and the GEM The­atre.

Joanna Mad­dox has ap­peared in nu­mer­ous na­tional tele­vi­sion pro­grams in­clud­ing “In the Heat of the Night” and “The Tonight Show,” with Jay Leno. Her Di­vas Trib­ute, “Lessons from the Di­vas” has taken her from Las Ve­gas, Ne­vada to Paris, France. She per­forms in schools, fes­ti­vals, uni­ver­si­ties, mu­se­ums, li­braries, churches and the­atres na­tion­wide.

“It is my be­lief that we can be in­spired by those who lived be­fore us, who de­spite the ob­sta­cles they faced in life con­tin­ued to pur­sue their dreams,” said Mad­dox. “Chil­dren need to be in­spired to dream, achieve and be­lieve in them­selves.”

Please mark your cal­en­dars for Tuesday, Feb. 6, 7:00 p.m. for this free fam­ily event. If you are un­able to at­tend in the evening, Mad­dox will be pre­sent­ing her pro­gram at the Dal­ton – Whit­field County Pub­lic Li­brary at 2:00 p.m.
