The Calhoun Aquatic Center has collaborated with Calhoun City Schools to offer FREE swim lessons to all PreK Students. For one week, each PreK class will be transported to the Calhoun Aquatic Center where they receive personalized one- on- one instructional time directed by Coach Charles Todd. After lessons, students from Mrs. Lynn Davis’ class assist in getting the little swimmers ready to get back on the bus to return to the PreK.
“It is a team effort and everyone works together to ensure we are providing a quality program for our PreK students,” said Chief Human Resources Officer, Dr. Michelle Griffith.
According to the Center for Disease Control, about one in five people who pass away from drowning are children 14 and younger. The goal at the Calhoun Aquatic Center is to make sure every child within the Calhoun City School System has the opportunity to learn about swim safety and proper swimming techniques to the best of their ability.
Each day the students will be evaluated on their progress and if they meet the requirements to move to the next level, and if so, they are allowed to “ring the bell.” On the final day of class, they will receive a certificate to show off their accomplishments.
“We are very proud to be able to offer this wonderful opportunity to the students in our PreK Program. This may be the only time some of the students have the chance to participate in swim lessons and swimming is an important life skill,” said PreK Coordinator, Kelly Fuquea.
In addition to this offering, The Calhoun Aquatic Center offers year round Swim America accredited Swim Lessons. For more information on upcoming swim lesson dates and times visit www.calhounaquaticcenter. com or call 706- 602- 6817.
