SHS Interact Club hosts local Rotary
On Thursday, March 8, 2018, Marcus Palazzolo, Interact Sponsor at Sonoraville High School, along with four active members and leaders of SHS Interact, welcomed members of Calhoun Rotary to the school. Palazzolo has a long history of sponsoring Interact Clubs, beginning at Calhoun High for 10 years, and now at SHS for seven years. Assisting Marcus is his wife Jackie, also a teacher at Sonoraville High School.
Each member present described their leadership roles in Community Service Projects, which include a river cleanup and trash pickup on Highway 53 for one mile east and one mile west of the school. The club also sponsors a needy child every year in “Shop with the Phoenix,” which is a program that helps with school supplies and personal items at Christmas. And this year, they’ll help support the Calhoun Rotary Golf Tournament Fundraiser. Rotary also had the opportunity to meet SHS’s new principal, Jennifer Hayes, who is a Calhoun native. She discussed some of her priorities as new principal.
Calhoun Rotary is very proud of the Youth Programs they support, including Interact Programs at both Sonoraville and Calhoun High Schools, ROTAKIDS of Calhoun Primary and the Reading Program at Calhoun Primary which began three years ago with Jim Lay, retired educator and Rotarian, with the cooperation of CCS Superintendent Michele Taylor, who is also a Rotarian.
