-

According to the Calhoun Police Department, two people have been arrested in the past week on armed robbery and various other charges in connection with a Jan. 31, 2018 incident at the Motel 6 in Calhoun.

Detectives with the CPD began their investigation into the incident after receiving a complaint that a male victim had been physically attacked at the Motel 6 after meeting a woman on social media and inviting her to visit him. The woman arrived and assaulted him, robbing him at gun point.

On Friday, March 16, CPD arrested Lorie Jane Thacker, 30, of Cedartown, and charged her with one count of first- degree armed robbery, one count of aggravated assault, one count of possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, one count of possession of a firearm by convicted felon and one count of battery.

On Tuesday, March 20, a second arrest in connection to the incident was made when CPD arrested Scott Dennis Hayes, of Rome. Hayes has been charged with party to a crime, armed robbery, aggravated assault, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime and battery.

“This case is a stark warning to anyone who plans to meet someone following limited internet contact,” said CPD Captain Tony Pyle. “This meeting must take place in public until you feel you know more about the person you are interacting with.”

Thacker and Hayes both remain in Gordon County Jail at press time.
