The Gordon County Republican Party will hold their monthly meeting at the Calhoun Depot on Thursday, Sept. 13 at 6 p.m. Shea Hicks from the Gordon County Elections Board and Colt Chambers the new Young Republican Chairman will be speaking. All are welcome and encouraged to attend.

Calhoun Animal Control is partnering with Adairsvill­e Animal Hospital to host their 5th annual Open House Vaccine/Adoption Clinic from 9 a.m. - 12 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 15 at Calhoun Animal Control, located at 200 Kirby Road in Calhoun, approximat­ely 3/4 mile west of the National Guard Armory. Services offered will be Rabies Vaccine, $5; DA2PP (5 in 1), $10; Bordetella (kennel cough vaccine), $10; Combo Vaccine for cats, $20. Dr. Amy Johnson and her team at Adairsvill­e Animal Hospital will be administer­ing vaccinatio­ns. The facility will be open for viewing and there will be some great dogs and cats for adoption. Calhoun Animal Control’s Clyde Burchett and Dustin Wilbanks will be on hand to answer any questions regarding day-to-day operations at the animal control facility. Crusin’ for St. Jude, a Southern Cruisers Riding Club motorcycle ride benefiting St. Jude Children’s Hospital, will take place on Saturday, Sept. 15, 2018. Registrati­on begins at 10 a.m.; KSU is at 12 noon. $20 per bike. The escorted ride will start and end at Easy Living Yamaha and Polaris, located at 3120 Martha Berry Highway in Rome. He’ll be handing out autographe­d pictures of race car drivers on Friday evening. Calhoun Suicide Prevention’s Chalk It Up! will be held on Saturday, Sept. 15 from 12 noon until 2 p.m. This event is for survivors of suicide to remember their loved ones. The Rome affiliate of the National Alliance on Mental Illness will offer a free educationa­l course addressing mental illness and recovery this fall. Peerto-Peer is a 8-week course for adults who have a mental illness and begins at 2:00 pm on Sept. 16. The course is peer taught and will be held in separate classrooms at the NAMI Rome trailer, which is next to Highland Rivers Crisis Stabilizat­ion Unit. The Oostanaula School Reunion will be held Sunday, Sept. 16, 2018 at the old Oostanaula Schoolhous­e, 1595 Oostanaula Bend Road in Calhoun. Addiction Counselor USA, approved by the Alcohol & Drug Abuse Certificat­ion Board of Georgia, will offer a Certified Anger Management Specialist Training on Saturday, Sept. 22 from 8 a.m. - 4 p.m. at Gordon County Farm Bureau, 487 West Belmont Drive in Calhoun. The 25th annual Unity Run will take place on Tuesday, Sept. 25. A true community event, the United Way of Gordon County’s Unity Run is just a lot of fun for a great cause. So, join your friends, neighbors and family members for Unity Run XXV on Tuesday, Sept. 25, 2018. 1K Kid’s Run at 5 p.m. and the 5K Run/Walk at 6:30 p.m. Buses run before the race from downtown Calhoun to Gordon Central High School, which is the beginning of the race. Participan­ts must park downtown before the race and ride the buses to Gordon Central.
