Calhoun Middle’s JV team claims Region Championship
The Calhoun Middle School junior varsity boys basketball team won the Region Championship earlier this month by defeating Cartersville 37- 32 to complete an undefeated region schedule.
Leading Scorers included Jax Abernathy with 20 points, Bryant Arnold with six points, Avery Shiflett and Christian Bell with four points, and Jordyn Storey with three points.
According to head coach Bryan Abernathy, the core of this JV team has been playing together since they were third graders. They know each other’s strengths and weaknesses and do a great job of complementing each other on the floor. This season was special. I have been coaching middle basketball for 19 years and have never completed a season with zero losses. I told the team after the game that what they accomplished was special. It was not easy to beat two quality teams two times in the regular season and then a third time in the semi finals and finals. I look forward to next season with this team in the eighth grade and the upcoming seventh graders with much anticipation.
