It was an eventful weather week across Northwest Georgia.

The remnants of Ida swept into the area Monday afternoon and lingered into Wednesday, bringing heavy rain and periods of severe weather. The entire area remained under a Flash Flood Watch through much of Tuesday.

Overall, the storm brought between 3.25 and 4.75 inches of rain in different areas of the county over 48 hours according to measurements from the United States Geological Survey, surpassing the National Weather Service’s expectation of 1-3 inches.

Despite the heavy rains, there was only a small amount of localized flooding. This most serious flooding was limited to areas like College Street at Red Bud Road.

There was also a brief tornado threat, when a rotating wall cloud was spotted

in Gordon County, putting the area under a brief tornado warning.

Ida made landfall near Port Fourchon, Louisiana

as a Category 4 hurricane, devastating the Louisiana coastline and knocking out power to the city of New Orleans among other locations.

As it departed northwestern Georgia, Ida would usher in sunshine for the rest of the workweek, leading into Labor Day weekend.

?? Wes Roland ?? Ida’s affects finally made it to Northwest Georgia Monday evening in the form of heavy rain and storms. Red Bud Road near Highway 41 was one of the areas where water made it over the roadway.
