SHS holds drive-through parade in honor of Veterans Day

Ruby Elizabeth Long Laird, age 97 of Acworth, GA, passed away on Wednesday, November 10, 2021 at her residence.

Ruby was born on October 19, 1924 in Dalton, GA, daughter of the late Clifford Long and Rose McDaniel Long. In addition to her parents, Ruby was also preceded in death by: her husband, Robert N. Laird; one brother, Clifford Long, JR; and one sister, Nellie Long Griffith. Ruby was a graduate of Red Bud High School Class of 1941. After graduation, she spent time attending Baroness Erlanger School of Nursing in Chattanoog­a, TN. She then went to work in the U.S. Cadet Nursing Corp during WW2. Later she was employed by Gordon Health Care for over 17 years.

Ruby is survived by: one daughter, Bonnie Laird Greene; two grandchild­ren, Heather Whatley and Brandon Greene; one great-grandchild, Ashlyn Olsen all of Acworth, GA; and several nieces and nephews also survive.

Private Graveside Services were conducted in Gordon Memorial Gardens.

Ruby suffered from Alzheimer’s for the past 15 years and in lieu of flowers memorial contributi­ons may be made to the Alzheimer’s Associatio­n.
