CCCA Programs/ Teachers of the Month Spotlight

- From Calhoun City Schools

Mrs. Jennifer Smith, the workforce readiness teacher, is the Calhoun College and Career Academy teacher in the spotlight for November.

Jennifer Smith has been teaching for 10 years. Jennifer is married to Ethan

Smith who is also a teacher in another district.

They have one daughter, Harper, who will turn two in February. They enjoy camping and participating in anything that involves the outdoors!

The family pets are a dalmatian named Oreo, a cat named Doug, a beta fish named Melvin, three ducks, and multiple chickens that are all a part of her small farm family. On a personal note, Jennifer loves to sing, dance, draw & paint, and do anything related to the fine arts.

Mrs. Jennifer Smith earned a Bachelor of Science degree in middle grades education from the University of North Georgia, a Master’s in Education degree in secondary English education from Kennesaw State University, and an education specialist degree in curriculum and instruction from Piedmont University. Mrs. Smith also served in the United States Army, and many of those skills play a big role in the workforce readiness pathway.

At CCCA, the workforce readiness is a brand-new pathway offered this year. The first course, freshman 101/leadworthy, is intended to allow students the opportunity to acquire employability skills that ease their transition to the workforce. In the class, students learn about the world of work by achieving academic challenges, participating in project-based learning activities, and workplace enrichment experiences that provide inner-personal and group-related leadership skills.

Mrs. Smith states, “I love that the students get to do something different in this class. It embodies every aspect of life to prepare them for what is to come in their future; be it the workforce, military, or post-secondary education. The students are getting opportunities to meet people in various fields and listen to guest speakers. They also volunteer to do work needed within our school and community such as the clothing closet and supplies as well as various events. The workforce readiness pathway is an opportunity to prepare students for the future at CCCA.”

Congratulations to Mrs. Jennifer Smith for being the CCCA program/teacher spotlight for November.
