Woman’s Club names Youths of the Month
In their meeting last Thursday, the Calhoun Woman’s Club honored six extraordinary students from three local high schools.
Calhoun High School, Sonoraville High School, and Gordon Central High School each honored two students, one for the month of October and one for the month of November. These students were nominated by members of staff for their exceptional academics and personal qualities.
The honorees for Sonoraville High School were Jayra Stansell for the month of October and Ella Claire Beason for the month of November.
Stansell is an honors student with a 3.8 GPA who is or has been active in the FCCLA, National beta Club, National Technical Honors Society, and Early Childhood Education Advisory Council. Known for her leadership skills and determination, she enjoys volunteering, participating in her church youth group, and cheering, and has participated in several service projects.
Beason is a student who is involved in numerous activities at SHS, and is touted as an all-around good student and a good representative for the school. Her teacher for Work-Based Learning, Andrea Walraven, said that her work-site supervisor has had excellent things to say about her performance and that her arguments are always submitted early.
The honorees for Calhoun High School are Kathryn Brook for October and Malysha Winston for November.
Brook is one of the top students in her class, and excels in the classroom and beyond. She is a Questbridge finalist, a state champion for the CHS Literary Team, and a National Skills USA silver medalist, and is currently working as a student intern in the Graphic Design Pathway through Work Based Learning. Once she graduates, she plans to pursue a degree in psychology and become a clinical psychologist.
Winston is a terrific student who exemplifies determination, hard work, and kindness, and is always polite and greets everyone with a
smile. She is a leader at CHS, not only showing leadership in the classroom but also on the softball field, basketball court, and track and in Work-Based Learning. After high school, Winston plans to pursue a degree in accounting or finance.
The two students honored at Gordon Central High School are Nadia Mosqueda Jimenez for the month of October and Lindsey Lowrance for the month of November.
Jimenez is described as hardworking and kind as well as someone who is always willing to go above and beyond. With a stand-out work ethic and great attitude, she is described as having a crucial role in GCHS’s video production program,
even outside of classroom. From broadcasting Friday night football to weekend performing arts, Jimenez is an all-around asset.
Lowrance is another great student who is expected to graduate near the top of her class with a 4.0 GPA. She is incredibly involved in theater, especially the technical aspects, and is also a member of the National Honor Society, Literary Team, and the Healthcare Advisory Council. Lowrance has also been on the homecoming court and been president of the FCA during her four years at GCHS.
Each honoree receives a certificate from the Calhoun Woman’s Club as well as a Chick-fil-A gift card to celebrate their excellence.
