♦ Suspensions include most

Low humidity along with windy conditions are increasing the potential for wildfire and the Georgia Forestry Commission is temporarily suspending the issuing of burning permits in much of Northwest Georgia.

Anyone planning to burn, including the burning of yard debris and other hand-piled natural vegetation, is asked to delay outdoor burning until conditions change, a press release stated.

The suspension includes Gordon, Floyd, Polk,

Chattooga, Catoosa Walker, Bartow and Murray counties.

“Low relative humidity, coupled with increasing winds, is causing these potentially dangerous conditions,” said Georgia Forestry Commission Protection Chief Frank Sorrells in a statement. “They make fires more intense and difficult to control.” Sorrells said the protection of people and property is the agency’s top concern, and burning permits will be issued again once favorable conditions return.
