Alabama’s Young named AP Player of the Year

Alabama quarterbac­k Bryce Young was named Associated Press College Football Player of the Year, the organizati­on announced Thursday.

Young received 42 of 53 first-place votes and received 137 total points to outdistanc­e Michigan defensive end Aidan Hutchinson (67 points. Hutchinson got four first-place votes.

Pittsburgh quarterbac­k Kenny Pickett (two, 41) was third and Alabama linebacker Will Anderson (four, 32) placed fourth. Ohio State quarterbac­k C.J. Stroud (1, 17) rounded out the top five.

Young, Hutchinson, Pickett and Stroud are finalists for the Heisman Trophy, which will be presented Saturday night.
